On April 9th, a study tour themed 'Discover China, Experience Yunfu' took place in Yunan County, Yunfu City, located in western Guangdong province. A total of 58 international students from 25 countries, including Russia, Indonesia, and Switzerland, currently studying atuniversities such as Guangdong University of Foreign Studiesand South China University of Technology, explored the cultural heartland of Nanjiang River. They traced the ancient legacy of the Modao Mountain site, experiencing the unique charm of Lingnan culture through its historic architecture and intangible cultural heritage.
Li Geng, a doctoral student in Urban and Rural Planning at the School of Architecture, South China University of Technology, showed great interest in the Shi De Cultural Centre, built in 1925. He was fascinated by the hall's brick-and-wood structure, gable roof, upturned eaves, murals and calligraphy on the walls, and lime sculptures on the roof. He meticulously photographed everything and enthusiastically explained the significance of the door's eaves plate to his classmates.
In the 'Shi Li Chuan Jia' Museum, China's first privately operated museum to revitalize ancient architecture, over 10,000 artifacts silently recount the thousand-year history of the Nanjiang River basin. Polish student Mai Ziyang (Chinese name) was captivated as he browsed the exhibits. "The architecture and cultural richness of the Lanzhai village are stunning," he said, "This trip has given me a deep appreciation for the thousand-year-old cultural legacy of Nanjiang River."
That afternoon, the group visited the Modao Mountain Archaeological Heritage Museum in Hekou Town. More than 300 typical chipped stone tools, including hand picks, hand axes, and choppers unearthed here, have extended the timeline of human activity in Guangdong back to 600,000 to 800,000 years ago. These seemingly crude stone tools represent a major achievement in the Early Lingnan Origin Exploration Project.
During the event, international students tasted traditional Yunan delicacies such as yinci (imprinted black sesame rice cake) and aici (aicao mugwort mochi), both recognized as part of China's intangible cultural heritage. They expressed their appreciation for Lingnan flavors with exclamations like 'Very delicious!' and 'Good! It’s very good!'

Very delicious!" "Good! It's very good!"
