On the afternoon of April 10th, the graduation ceremony of the 2025 Program for Youth Representatives from Pacific Island Countries was successfully held in Guangzhou. Among the many memorable moments, Richard Amos from Vanuatu was particularly thrilled when he spotted a lizard-shaped wooden stand gifted by former Prime Minister Barak Sopé, on display at the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Museum.

From March 23rd to April 11th, 33 young representatives from ten Pacific Island countries (PICs), including Papua New Guinea and Fiji, gathered in Guangdong for a three-week intensive training program. They visited six cities, including Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and participated in six lectures, 22 field sessions, and two cultural immersion courses. The program offered a comprehensive understanding of China's political, economic, and social development, the prospects for cooperation between China and PICs, and firsthand insights into Guangdong's reform and development practices.

Reflecting on their journey, many delegates shared snapshots that captured unforgettable moments. Charlei Andrianna from Nauru posted a photo taken with fellow Pacific students at Wuyi University in Jiangmen, expressing her surprise and joy at encountering compatriots abroad. Kevin from Papua New Guinea shared a group photo taken next to a fire hydrant, explaining how deeply he was moved by China's investment in education and its youth. He praised the innovative spirit of the Chinese youth and hoped that the insights gained during the program could inspire positive development in his country.

Tanusia from Tonga became emotional while talking about a photo she took at the Jiangmen Wuyi Overseas Chinese Museum. She once thought the gap between China and her home country was vast. But seeing how early Chinese emigrants left home for the sake of family and yet preserved their cultural heritage reminded her of the shared values between the two peoples. "It gave me hope," she said. "Just like China, Pacific nations too have great opportunities ahead."

The delegates also gained a profound understanding of China's commitment to global green development. John Perman from the Federated States of Micronesia recalled being especially impressed by the visit to the Fushan Circular Economy Industrial Park in Guangzhou. "Here we saw how China is using cutting-edge AI technology to convert waste into energy. These advanced technologies hold global significance," he remarked.

"China has never seen us as scattered islands in the ocean, but rather as ocean nations with vision and a voice," said Ketan Kirit from Fiji. "Through its actions, China has shown it is a true friend and partner to the Pacific Islands."
