The Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism announced the latest provincial culture and tourism data for the May Day holiday on the afternoon of May 5, 2025. The telecommunication data showed that Hunan Province received over 27.32 million tourist trips during the five-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 47.72%. Of the total, more than 5.68 million trips were made by tourists from outside Hunan Province, accounting for 20.81%.

Based on the China UnionPay data analysis, the per capita spending of tourists reached 611.53 CNY, up 0.28% year on year. According to estimates, the total tourism expenditure amounted to 23.199 billion CNY, an increase of 56.6% over the same period last year. Among them, tourists from outside Hunan Province spent 5.734 billion CNY in total, surging 167% year on year, while in-province tourists spent a total of 17.465 billion CNY, growing 37.88% yearly.
