On April 18, 1942, Lieutenant Colonel James H. Doolittle led 16 B-25 bombers to bomb Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kobe, Japan. This operation was known as the "Doolittle Raid". After the air raid, due to navigation and weather issues, four of them crashed or were forced to land in Shangrao, Poyang, Wuyuan, and Guangfeng. The military and civilians of Shangrao made every effort to rescue, find, hide, transfer, and assist the American crew members, and a total of 17 American pilots were rescued and successfully escaped danger.

To commemorate history and honor the friendship forged between the peoples of China and America in the crucible of blood and fire, the Shangrao Museum plans to launch the special exhibition "Shangrao Rescue of the Doolittle Raid."
