The increasing popularity of short dramas has put Zhengzhou in the spotlight, attracting many professional actors from traditional film & TV centers like Beijing, Hangzhou, and Chengdu. Backed by government efforts to take advantage of opportunities, promote quality content, foster industry growth, and optimize services, Zhengzhou is progressing towards becoming a short drama capital.

Zhengzhou's appeal lies in its diverse shooting locations. As a national central city steeped in history and culture, Zhengzhou offers the backdrop of a modern metropolis, abundant cultural heritage, idyllic ancient villages, and fashionable cultural blocks born from urban renewal. It also has numerous high-end hotels and resorts. The government has worked with market entities to tap into these resources, providing a variety of filming sites for short dramas. For example, Erqi District has curated a range of shooting locations with different themes, such as history, urban memory, health care, workplaces, and technology. Trendy spots like the Ruiguang Creative Factory, Erqi Mifang, and CREC · Taiheli contrast with classical settings like Jialu Water Town and the Zhanyuan Art Museum. Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone has established the Jumei Film Studio, aiming to create a Shudian that rivals Hengdian by developing an industrial ecosystem enabling "one-stop production of short dramas." The Dazhi Film & TV Base, located in Huanggangmiao Village by the Yellow River in Jinshui District of Zhengzhou, has completed 10,000 square meters of indoor sets, featuring nearly 50 filming locations of varying sizes. These diverse filming locations, each with their own strengths, collectively showcase Zhengzhou's vast potential for developing short dramas.

While settings form the foundation, compelling content is the real competitive edge. Zhengzhou's high-quality productions are redefining the industry. In 2024, 48 key and 119 common short dramas were approved by radio & TV departments at the provincial level and above, while over 3,000 short dramas were approved by online platforms, an increase of more than 60%. Quality stories highlighting Songshan culture, Shaolin Kung Fu, and urban life have sprung up, breaking the stereotype that short dramas only feature "domineering CEOs" and "war gods", and also fueling the rapid growth of industry leaders.

Behind this industry's explosive growth is robust government policy support. By 2024, Zhengzhou's short drama market hit 2.3 billion yuan, with over 820 production companies and 30,000 professionals. To boost the development of short dramas, Zhengzhou has taken multiple steps. In May 2024, the city launched the creation activity titled Discover Zhengzhou in the South of the Yellow River; in October, it released Opinions on Supportive Policies for Accelerating the High-quality Development of Online Short Drama Industry in Zhengzhou, which indicated that Zhengzhou's goal is to become China's most influential short drama capital by 2027. Dengfeng City and Erqi District have also rolled out substantial incentive measures.

产业爆发式增长的背后，离不开有力的政策扶持。 截至2024年，郑州微短剧市场规模达23亿元，制作企业超820家，从业人员激增至3万多人。为推动发展，郑州一直在行动：2024年5月启动“河之南·游郑州”主题创作活动；10月发布《关于郑州市加快推进网络微短剧产业高质量发展扶持政策的意见》，并指出，目标到2027年建成最具影响力的中国“微短剧创作之都”。登封市、二七区等地也推出了真金白银的激励措施。
