On August 15th, the 2025 Southern China Book Fair opened grandly in Guangzhou. The main venue features "Read the World" Pavilion (the International Culture Exhibition Hall), which brings together cultural highlights from Southeast Asia, Europe, Arab countries, Central Asia, and beyond. The "Read the World" Pavilion showcases publishing achievements from 23 countries and regions, including 20,000 original publications in English, Japanese, Korean, and other languages.

This year, the fair welcomes several renowned international figures who are engaging directly with Chinese readers through their classic works. American author Wendelin Van Draanen hosted a talk on her novel 'Flipped'; British illustrator Neil Packer participated in a dialogue focused on independent illustration; and Dutch science fiction writer Roderick Leeuwenhart joined a themed conversation on speculative fiction, featuring his novel 'Sterrenlichaam'. "Literature is so important as it connects cultures. Even if we live in different corners of the world, we still share a common heart," said Wendelin Van Draanen with emotion.

Hassanein, an Egyptian sinologist, also attended the book fair. He has translated more than 30 Chinese literary works into Arabic, including Mo Yan's 'Red Sorghum' and Yu Hua's 'Chronicle of a Blood Merchant'. "I've long heard of the Southern China Book Fair and I'm familiar with many writers from Guangdong and Hong Kong," Hassanein noted. "With the acceleration of Chinese books going global, more and more works are being translated, and this fair is becoming an important platform for international cultural exchange."

Neil Packer added, "Eastern culture has always nourished my creativity. This is my first visit to the Southern China Book Fair, and interaction with writers from around the world inspires new ideas. The thoughts carried in books transcend borders and resonate with readers across the globe." His sentiment reflects the growing momentum of picture books and wordless books in the global publishing industry.
