On September 30th this year, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China, the Macao music group MFM released a new music video (MV) titled Footprints. The MV connects various iconic landmarks in Macao SAR, guiding viewers on a virtual tour of the city through a travelogue-style narrative. MFM, a homegrown music group from Macao, has been active for ten years. The group consists of three members Hyper Lo, Josie Ho, and AJ, who recently gave an exclusive interview to Yangcheng Evening News. The members shared that, over the past decade since their debut, they have witnessed how the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has provided significant support and opportunities for the growth of their group.
The name MFM holds multiple meanings, as explained by Josie. Firstly, MFM represents the composition of the group, consisting of two male members and one female member, which stands for Male, Female, and Male. Secondly, it coincidentally matches the code for Macao International Airport. Lastly, MFM can also be interpreted as Music From Macao.
"The original intention behind forming the group was to ensure that when people think of Macao, they not only think of its fun attractions and delicious food but also think of us," Hyper explained. He further emphasized that, just like their group name, the music created by the three members also carries a distinct Macao flavor.
Macao is a multilingual city, where you can hear Cantonese, Portuguese, English, and Mandarin in the streets and alleys. AJ, a member of the group and of mixed Chinese and Portuguese descent, pays special attention to incorporating Portuguese elements into their music. In addition, the sound of the mandolin frequently appears in their music. Josie explained, "In many performances in Macao, you can hear the mandolin. It is an important instrument in Portuguese music and is very characteristic of Macao."
In fact, MFM is not content with only developing in Macao SAR; they aspire to expand into the Chinese mainland and even to the world, with the goal of bringing Mandarin music from Macao to a broader audience. The establishment of the GBA has provided significant support in helping the group expand its music career. Hyper explained, "Now, with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, and the 'Northbound Travel for Macao Vehicles' policy, it has become very convenient for us to perform in the Chinese mainland."
When performing and working in the Chinese mainland, the members were deeply moved by the inclusiveness, warmth, and friendliness of the cities they visited. Hyper told the reporters, "When we performed in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Qingdao, we were very lucky to have nearly full houses at every show. Many of the audience were hearing us sing for the first time, but their response was so enthusiastic, which really touched us."
Josie mentioned that, particularly in the cities of the GBA, the high level of acceptance of their music is largely due to the shared Cantonese cultural background. "The audience doesn't necessarily label us as 'Macao,' but good music is universal. We believe that even without explicitly mentioning it, they can still feel the Macao elements we've thoughtfully incorporated into our music."
Due to their diverse musical style, MFM's popularity has been steadily increasing in the Chinese mainland. In the 2023 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Josie took part in performing "Youth Towards the Sun" and "The Flower Planting Song," marking the first time a new-generation artist from Macao performed two songs on the prestigious stage of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. In the 2024 Guangdong TV Lunar New Year Gala, MFM again performed on the stage.
MFM is excited about the upcoming 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China. Josie encourages young people to explore more opportunities, emphasizing that the development of the GBA will open up even broader horizons for them. "Life in Macao is very comfortable, and people may not be as willing to take risks or try new things. But if we step out of Macao and move into the GBA, there will be many more opportunities for growth and development."
AJ expressed that currently, there are many platforms and activities for exchange between Macao SAR and the Chinese mainland, with policies providing strong support for young people in Macao. "It's now very convenient to travel to the mainland, and I hope young people can participate more in such activities to gain more experience and inspiration." Hyper, on the other hand, believes that Macao's youth should actively pay attention to national policies. "In fact, many of the policies are related to the entrepreneurship of young people in Macao. I encourage everyone to learn more about these policies and see how they can align them with their own goals. You will find that they can be very helpful for entrepreneurship."

澳门音乐组合MFM：粤港澳大湾区为澳门音乐发展带来更多机遇
今年9月30日，为庆祝澳门回归祖国25周年，澳门音乐组合MFM推出全新MV《足迹》，将澳门多个地标性景点串联起来，以游记方式带领听众畅游澳门。出道十年的MFM是土生土长的澳门创作组合，三位成员嘉豪、祖丝、AJ日前接受了羊城晚报记者专访。成员们表示，出道十年间感受到了粤港澳大湾区建设为组合发展带来的助力。
组合取名为MFM有何深意？祖丝解释，MFM有多重含义，既代表Male, Female, Male（男性、女性、男性）的两男一女组合，也和澳门国际机场代码MFM一致，还可以解读为Music From Macao（来自澳门的音乐），是一个充满了澳门元素的组合名。
“组合成立的初衷，就是希望大家在想到澳门的时候，不仅想到澳门好玩的地方和好吃的食物，在想到澳门的歌手时，还能想到我们。”嘉豪表示，与组合名一样，三人创作的音乐也具有十分鲜明的澳门特色。
澳门是一个多语言的城市，粤语、葡语、英语、普通话都可以在澳门的街头巷尾听到。组合成员AJ是中葡混血，因此他更加注重在创作时加入葡语元素。除此之外，MFM的音乐中经常出现乐器曼陀铃的声音，祖丝介绍：“在澳门的很多演出中都可以听到曼陀铃，它是葡国音乐中很重要的一种乐器，很有澳门特色。”
实际上，MFM并不满足于仅在澳门发展，他们希望走到内地，走向世界，唱响来自澳门的华语音乐。而粤港澳大湾区的成立，为组合拓展音乐事业提供了极大的助力。嘉豪表示：“现在有了港珠澳大桥、深中通道，有了‘澳车北上’政策，我们去内地演出非常方便。”
在内地演出和工作时，成员们被内地城市的包容、热情和友好深深打动。嘉豪告诉记者：“我们去到广州、上海、青岛演出，很幸运几乎场场满座，很多观众虽然是第一次听我们唱歌，但反应都好热烈，让我们很感动。”
祖丝提到，特别是在大湾区的城市，因为相同的粤语文化背景，观众对他们的音乐接受程度很高，“观众并不会特别为我们加上澳门的标签，但好音乐是共通的，相信即使我们不特别说明，他们也能感受到我们用心加入的澳门元素。”
因为音乐风格多样，MFM在内地知名度越来越高。2023年中央电视台春节联欢晚会上，祖丝参与演唱《青春向太阳》和《种花歌》，是首次有澳门新生代艺人在央视春晚的舞台献唱两首歌曲。2024广东卫视龙年湾区春晚上，三人又以组合形式登台表演。
对于即将到来的澳门回归祖国25周年大日子，成员们感到很兴奋。祖丝鼓励年轻人多去探索，在粤港澳大湾区的建设中一定能闯出更广阔的天地。“在澳门生活很舒适，大家可能不敢冒险、不敢尝试，但如果我们走出澳门，走进大湾区，会发展很多机会。”
AJ则表示，当下澳门与内地有许多交流的平台和活动，在政策方面给予澳门青年很多支持，“现在到内地十分方便，希望年轻人可以多多参加此类活动，获得更多经验和启发。”嘉豪认为，当下的澳门青年应当积极关注国家政策，“其实很多政策与澳门青年创业相关，大家不妨多多了解相关政策，与自己想做的事结合起来，就会发现对创业是非常帮助的。”
