BISHKEK, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- A three-day film festival commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War is taking place in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyz State Secretary Marat Imankulov said at the event that the Chinese people fought against Japanese militarists in the East during World War II and made enormous sacrifices, with more than 35 million dead and wounded. He expressed hope that such a tragedy would never be repeated and emphasized that the festival would help pass the message of peace to younger generations.

Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping said the Chinese people's most difficult struggle led to the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and made a historic contribution to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. She reaffirmed that China is willing to join Kyrgyzstan to remember history, honor fallen heroes, preserve peace, and build a shared future.

Screenings of such Chinese films as "My Country, My Parents," "Detective Chinatown 1900" and "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru" are planned during the film festival.

The festival, which runs from Aug. 27 to 29, is jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the China Film Administration and the Kyrgyzstan-China Friendship Society.
