In Taojiang, central China’s Hunan Province, a 1,499-square-meter, three-story building weighing nearly 1,000 tons has no steel or concrete supports. It features large-scale bamboo laminated timber. The natural bamboo, processed with self-developed equipment, gains excellent strength, with a compressive strength over 70 MPa, much higher than concrete. Assembled in a week, it overcomes mildew, decay, and fire issues through tech innovation. The anti-mildew rate is 100%, corrosion resistance is top-notch, and fireproofing is at B1 level. The cooperation between local companies and Central South University of Forestry and Technology has spurred bamboo tech progress. With policy support, the bamboo industry is set to boom, like in "bamboo for steel" and "bamboo for plastic" applications, showing vast market potential.(Photo/Hong Kefei)
