The world's largest clean energy corridor along China's Yangtze River produced approximately 295.904 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2024, up 7.11 percent year on year. According to China Three Gorges Corporation, the increase is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by around 89.24 million tonnes and lowering carbon dioxide emissions by 240 million tonnes, which has strongly supported China's green energy transition.
Six mega hydropower stations along the mainstream of the Yangtze River - Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam - form the world's largest clean energy corridor, stretching over 1,800 kilometers with a water level drop exceeding 900 meters. Its total installed power generation capacity reached 71.695 million kilowatts, equivalent to the Three Gorges Dam. Meanwhile, the optimized waterway conditions of the reservoir have greatly promoted the release of the economic value of the Yangtze River "golden waterway". Data show that in 2024, the Three Gorges Dam navigation hub handled nearly 160 million tonnes of cargo.(By Jia Zifan/China Youth Daily)
