As the first Chinese New Year celebrated after its successful application to world heritage list approaches, the 2025 "Chinese New Year Celebration" mascot— the "Lucky Snake", designed and developed by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has started to make appearances in various countries and regions around the world. This festive and adorable plush toy, produced by Dongguan HUGKIS Culture Industry Company located in the Chashan Town of Dongguan, marks the third time the company has been the exclusive manufacturer for the "Chinese New Year Celebration" mascot, following the Year of Rabbit and the Year of Dragon.
This year, China will host over 400 "Chinese New Year Celebration" events in more than 70 countries and regions overseas, including Chinese New Year concerts, Spring parades, family Days, and New Year temple fairs. The "Lucky Snake" plush toys have already been delivered to over 140 countries and regions worldwide, gaining popularity among overseas Chinese communities and foreign friends.
The design of the "Lucky Snake" is inspired by a common motif in traditional Chinese cultural art—the "snake holding the lingzhi fungus," symbolizing good fortune, longevity, and health protection. The patterns on the head and body of the snake are based on the Dunhuang caisson patternsfrom the Tang dynasty, giving the overall image a rich hue of Chinese cultural aesthetics.
It is reported that since the launch of the related "Lucky Snake" products just half a month ago, over 100,000 units have already been sold both online and offline. Apart from their use in the 2025 "Chinese New Year Celebration" activities, the production company has also promoted these products to the local Chinese communities and schools with the help of various overseas Chinese enterprises.
As one of the youngest cities in the country, Dongguan's designer toy companies have seized the opportunity of the Chinese New Year to launch innovative snake-themed new designer toy products that showcase elements of Chinese culture.
The Flower Color Snake, developed by Dongguan Weishi Cultural Technology Co., ltd., draws its design inspiration from the national intangible cultural heritage — the Feidongyang Snake Lantern. With exquisite craftsmanship and unique styling, the lit-up Yang Snake Lantern symbolizes the auspicious wish for good fortune and health for years to come.
Guangdong Haiyidai Toys Co., ltd. uses the sacred divine beast Bai Xi from the Classic of Mountain and Seas as a creative prototype, meticulously hand-sewn the toys to convey a timeless connection and a heartfelt desire for a beautiful life.
