Hello everyone and welcome to our channel.
大家好,欢迎来到我们的频道。
I'm Anastasia.
我是Anastasia。
I scored 119 on the TOEFL test and have been teaching it for over 10 years.
我在托福考试中获得了119分,并且教授托福已经超过10年。
Today we're focusing on question 1 of the TOEFL speaking section.
今天我们专注于托福口语部分的第一题。
Also known as the independent question.
也被称为独立问题。
If you want to nail the TOEFL speaking section, this is the question you should start with.
如果你想攻克托福口语部分,这就是你应该从开始解答的问题。
Why this question specifically?
为什么特别选择这个问题?
Well, let me tell you something.
那么,让我告诉你一些事。
In my Zoom lessons, I work with students from all walks of life.
在我的Zoom课程中,我与来自各行各业的学生合作。
Some preparing on their own, others taking consultation after the TOEFL course to evaluate their speaking skills, and those who have already taken the test and are now looking for guidance to improve their score.
有些学生正在自学,有些则在托福课程后寻求咨询以评估他们的口语能力,还有那些已经参加过考试并寻求指导以提高分数的学生。
And guess what?
而且猜猜怎么着?
99% of them find this question the hardest.
99%的人认为这个问题最难。
hardest.
最难的。
So why is this question so challenging?
那么,为什么这个问题如此具有挑战性呢?
And more importantly, how can you score higher?
更重要的是,如何才能获得更高的分数?
That's exactly what we're going to cover in today's video.
这正是我们今天视频将要探讨的内容。
Let's dive in.
让我们开始吧。
What does a high-scoring answer look like?
高分答案是什么样的?
To get 26 plus on this question, your answer needs to be first, natural.
要在这一问题上获得26分及以上,你的回答首先需要自然流畅。
You should speak at your natural pace.
你应该以你自然的语速来说。
Not too fast and not too slow.
既不太快,也不太慢。
If you rush, you might mispronounce words or struggle with clarity.
如果语速过快,可能会导致发音错误或表达不清。
If you go too slow, you'll lose fluency and might hesitate too much.
若语速过慢,流利度将受损,且可能过多犹豫。
How can you test your natural speed?
如何测试你的自然语速?
Ask yourself any random question.
随便问自己一个问题。
Then imagine a friend needs your advice and record yourself answering this question as if you're talking to your friend.
然后设想一个朋友需要你的建议,并录制自己像在与朋友交谈一样回答这个问题。
Then listen back.
然后听回放。
This is usually your natural speed.
这通常是你的自然语速。
Also, remember that some people tend to speak faster and others slower.
同时,请记住,有些人说话快,有些人则慢。只要避免与语法或词汇相关的停顿,两者都无可厚非。
Both are fine as long as you avoid grammar or vocabulary-related hesitations.
两者皆可,只要避免与语法或词汇相关的犹豫。
Two, vocabulary-rich.
2、词汇丰富。
Use at least two to three topic-specific words in each answer.
在每个回答中至少使用两到三个与主题相关的词汇。
I always recommend making a list of useful words that can apply to different topics.
我始终建议制作一份适用于不同话题的有用词汇清单。
This way, if you add them to your answers consistently while practicing, on test day, you'll use them automatically, just like the simple words you already know.
这样,你在练习时如果能持续将它们加入到答案中,到考试那天,你就能像使用已经熟知的简单词汇一样自动使用它们。
If you aren't sure you can make this word list on your own, use the list we provide in our TOEFL course.
如果你不确定自己能否独立完成这份词汇表,可以使用我们在托福课程中提供的列表。
I specifically compiled it to include extremely versatile idiomatic words that can boost your score and be used in almost any context.
我特意编纂这份词汇表,纳入了极为通用且地道的词汇,这些词汇不仅能提升你的分数,还几乎适用于任何语境。

Also, avoid repeating the same words too often.
此外,尽量避免过多重复使用相同的词汇。
For example, saying school three times in two sentences can make your answer sound weak.
例如,在两个句子中三次说到学校会让你的答案听起来很薄弱。
Instead, use synonyms or paraphrase.
而是使用同义词或改述。
Your response should also be grammatically solid.
你的回答也应语法严谨。
While small grammar mistakes won't ruin your score, too many can hurt the fluency of your answers.
尽管小错误不会毁掉你的分数,但太多错误会影响答案的流畅性。
You shouldn't stress out if you make a mistake.
犯错时不必过于焦虑。
But I always suggest reviewing the most difficult grammar areas, so that you can speak without thinking about grammar.
但我总是建议复习最难的语法点,这样你就能在说话时不用考虑语法。
The two biggest areas to review.
需要重点复习的两个最大领域。
are articles and tenses.
是冠词和时态。
Mastering these alone can eliminate up to 70% of your mistakes.
仅掌握这些就能消除高达70%的错误。
As you can see, many of the skills you develop for question 1 will also help with other speaking section questions, so improving here can boost your overall performance.
如你所见, 为第一题培养的许多技能同样能助力其他口语部分的问题,因此在此方面的提升能全面提高你的表现。
apart from the three aspects I just mentioned.
除了我刚才提到的三个方面之外。
Your answer should also be well-structured.
你的回答也应结构清晰。
Organizing information in a clear way can help you speak fluently and show your best performance, while a poor structure can cause you to struggle and make mistakes.
以清晰的方式组织信息可以帮助你流畅地表达, 并展现最佳表现,而糟糕的结构则会导致你挣扎并犯错。
This is why an effective structure and a template are crucial for this type of question.
因此,针对这类问题,一个有效的结构和模板至关重要。
You should also know special exercises that will help you improve your enunciation, demonstrate good intonation, fluency, and sound confident on the day of the test.
你也应熟悉一些特殊练习, 这些练习能助你提升发音清晰度,展现良好的语调、流利度,并在考试当天显得自信满满。
We've included all these in our TOEFL course to make sure you can prepare for the test in a fast, easy, and effective way.
我们已在托福课程中涵盖了所有这些内容,确保你能以快速、简便且高效的方式备考。

Now it's time for the most interesting part of today's lesson, the sample answers.
现在是今天课程中最有趣的部分了,那就是示范答案。
We'll answer three Type 1 questions.
我们将回答三个第一类问题。
You can pause the video and try answering on your own first, then continue watching to hear my response.
你可以暂停视频, 先自己尝试回答,然后继续观看以听到我的回答。
To make this task as practical as possible, write down the interesting phrases and collocations you hear, and then answer again using them in your responses.
为了使这个任务尽可能实用,请写下你听到的有趣短语和搭配,然后在你的回答中使用它们再次作答。
Ready?
准备?
Let's begin!
让我们开始吧!
Question 1.
问题 1.
Do you prefer studying alone or with a group?
你更喜欢独自学习还是与小组一起学习?
I prefer studying on my own because it helps me focus better without distractions.
我更喜欢独自学习,因为这样能让我在没有干扰的情况下更好地集中注意力。
I can set my own pace and go over difficult topics as many times as I need until I fully understand them.
我可以按照自己的节奏学习,反复钻研难点,直到完全掌握为止。
I remember back in my freshman year of college, I prepared for tough physics exams.
我记得在我大学大一那年,我为那些艰难的物理考试做准备。
By studying in my dorm room, I'd shut myself in ask my roommate not to disturb me, and spend hours reviewing my lecture notes and working through complex formulas.
通过在宿舍里学习, 我会把自己关起来, 让室友不要打扰我,并花几个小时复习讲座笔记和推演复杂的公式。
This method helped me retain information effectively and perform well on the exams.
这种方法帮助我有效地记住信息,并在考试中取得好成绩。
As a result, I became one of the top students and ended up graduating with honors.
因此,我成为了顶尖学生之一,并以优异的成绩毕业。
Now, answer the same question again using the new vocabulary.
现在,请用新学的词汇再次回答同一个问题。
you you Question 2.
您您问题二。
Some people prefer working for a large company, while others prefer a small business.
有些人喜欢在大公司工作,而另一些人则偏爱小企业。
Which do you prefer?
你更倾向于哪种?
I'd rather work for a small company because you really get to enjoy a tight-knit community and closer interaction with your co-workers.
我宁愿去小公司工作,因为你可以真正享受到紧密的社区氛围和与同事更密切的互动。
In a smaller workplace, employees tend to build stronger relationships, which makes collaboration easier and creates a more supportive environment.
在较小的工作场所, 员工往往能建立更牢固的关系,这使得协作更容易, 并营造出一个更加支持性的环境。
Actually, a friend of mine works for a small marketing agency, and she often talks about how everyone knows each other well and works together like a team.
实际上, 我的一个朋友在一家小型营销机构工作,她经常提到大家彼此都很熟悉, 像一个团队一样一起工作。
Whenever she has a question or a proposal, she can just message her boss on Slack, and they figure things out right away.
每当她有问题或建议时,她只需在Slack上给老板发消息,他们就能马上解决。
In contrast, large corporations can feel impersonal, since you rarely get to interact with higher executives or see how your work contributes to the company's success.
相比之下, 大型企业可能会显得缺乏人情味,因为你很少有机会与高层管理人员互动, 或者看到自己的工作如何为公司的成功做出贡献。
you you Question 3.
你你 问题3. 你更喜欢在线课程还是亲自上课?
Do you prefer taking online courses or attending classes in person?
你更喜欢在线课程还是亲自上课?
I'm definitely an online class person because this method of studying offers far more flexibility.
我绝对倾向于在线课程,因为这种学习方式提供了更多的灵活性。
Think about it.
考虑一下。
You don't have to commute daily and you can invest that time in your studies instead.
你不必每天通勤,而是可以把那段时间投入到学习中。
which can be really helpful if your prep time is limited.
如果你的备考时间有限,这将会非常有帮助。
Many people who opt for traditional classes waste hours stuck in traffic, which can adversely affect their health and productivity over time.
选择传统课程的许多人因交通堵塞而浪费数小时,这长期下来可能会对他们的健康和生产力产生不利影响。
Also, online courses can be taken from anywhere in the world.
而且,在线课程可以在世界任何地方进行。
Just recently, a friend of mine completed a Stanford graduate certificate program, even though she lives in Europe, and got the opportunity to learn from top professors and connect with students from all walks of life, all from the comfort of her home.
就在最近,我的一位朋友尽管居住在欧洲,却成功完成了斯坦福大学的研究生证书课程,得以在家舒适的环境中向顶尖教授学习,并与来自各行各业的学生建立联系。
