辣子鸡的起源地存在多种说法，有称辣子鸡最早可追溯至清朝乾隆年间的四川地区。当时四川金川战役期间，军中厨师为改善士兵饮食，用辣椒与鸡肉同炒，创制了辣子鸡雏形。后传入重庆歌乐山等地，发展为重庆辣子鸡丁等经典川菜。但云南曲靖沾益辣子鸡是滇菜代表作，同样拥有百年历史，枣庄辣子鸡近年发展迅猛，被列为“中国辣子鸡之乡”。

The dish later spread to areas like Geleshan in Chongqing, evolving into classic Sichuan dishes such as Chongqing Diced Spicy Chicken. Meanwhile, Laziji from Zhanyi, Qujing in Yunnan, is a representative dish of Yunnan cuisine and also has a history of over a hundred years. In recent years, Zaozhuang's Laziji has developed rapidly, earning the city the title of "Hometown of Spicy Chicken" in China.
