The commencement ceremony of Changsha Olympic Sports Center project was held at the Changsha Olympic Sports Center New Town Area on April 27, 2025. Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, announced the start of project construction. Governor Mao noted that the construction of Changsha Olympic Sports Center is a concrete action of Hunan Province to comprehensively implement the important exposition of President Xi Jinping on sports work. It marks a new milestone in Hunan's sports development, and sets up a new landmark for Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan integrated development. Hunan enjoys a profound inheritance of sportsmanship, a solid foundation of recreational sports, and broad prospects for the development of sports undertakings, boasting fruitful competitive sports, prosperous recreational sports events, and booming public fitness programs.

He called for taking the construction of Changsha Olympic Sports Center as an opportunity to build an important hub for hosting domestic and international top-level events. Hunan will continue to nurture sports brands and polish the gold calling card of "Hunan Sports Force", pushing forward Hunan sports to achieve leapfrog results. The groundbreaking ceremony is both a charge and a certificate of responsibility, Governor Mao said, asking all relevant units to adhere to the first-class standards, technology, and quality; improve the guarantee of service elements; accelerate the construction of venues and facilities; and, fully demonstrate the beauty of craftsmanship, green development, and Hunan Province.

The Changsha Olympic Sports Center project, located in Tianxin District, Changsha City, covers an area of 66.67 hectares, benchmarking the "global vision, international standards, and Hunan characteristics." The project includes a main stadium, a comprehensive gymnasium, a diving and swimming pool, and other supporting facilities, which can accommodate nearly 100,000 people. In the future, it will become a new landmark for the integrated development of Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan cities, combining high-end events, public fitness programs, cultural and sports performances, recreation, and other functions.
