Twenty sets of Hunan-made railroad turnouts arrived at Lianyungang Port, Jiangsu Province on May 6, ready to be shipped to Nigeria.

These turnouts were developed and manufactured by the Turnout Company under the China railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited (CRCHI), reaching the European Standards on Railway Applications.

This is the first export of Hunan-made Euro-standard railroad turnouts to Nigeria, marking a significant phased achievement in the infrastructure cooperation between China and Nigeria under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Nigeria's railway system has long adhered to European standards. As a critical railway network upgrade project in West Africa, Kano-Maradi Railway serves as a key infrastructure construction project in Nigeria and also an important practice of China-Europe cooperation in a third-party market. CRCHI has secured the contract to supply all 162 sets of turnouts for this railway, setting a new record for the scale of a single contract in its overseas turnout market.

The No.16 simple turnouts for 60E1 steel tracks delivered this time was developed by CRCHI, based on China's advanced intelligent turnout manufacturing technology and in strict compliance with European standards and client requirements. Multiple cutting-edge technologies were applied innovatively to enhance durability and safety while ensuring high reliability of the turnouts.

Spanning 285 kilometers, Kano-Maradi Railway connects Nigeria with Niger as a crucial cross-border rail artery. Upon completion, this railway is expected to improve north-south transportation in Nigeria, boost agricultural and manufacturing development along the route, strengthen regional economic collaboration, and alleviate logistics pressures for landlocked Niger. It will exemplify China-Africa joint efforts to implement the Belt and Road Initiative, but will also inject fresh momentum into advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
