The secret of traditional Chinese medicine: discerning a prescription with keen eyes and treating according to the syndrome
In the vast ocean of medicine, traditional Chinese medicine is like an ancient ship carrying the wisdom of thousands of years, slowly sailing through the long river of history. With its unique theoretical system, rich clinical experience, and profound cultural heritage, it has attracted the attention of countless people, including "traditional Chinese medicine fans" who are full of curiosity and longing for traditional Chinese medicine formulas. However, in the process of seeking the secrets of traditional Chinese medicine, have we truly understood the essence of traditional Chinese medicine? Do we know how to correctly use the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine to maintain health?
The core of traditional Chinese medicine lies in "differential diagnosis and treatment", which is an ancient and profound medical principle. It tells us that every patient is a unique individual, and their disease, constitution, psychological state, and other conditions are different. Therefore, treatment must be different for different people, achieving "one person, one prescription, one thousand people, one thousand prescriptions". The so-called secret recipes, classic prescriptions, experimental prescriptions, commonly used prescriptions, and even special prescriptions for special diseases are the summary of the experience of previous generations. They can be effective under certain circumstances, but they must not be rigidly applied. Otherwise, they may lead to the opposite of the intended effect.
I remember an old Chinese doctor once told a story: he once treated a patient who suffered from chronic insomnia. The patient had consulted many doctors and tried various remedies, but none of them worked. After carefully inquiring about the patient's medical history, symptoms, and living habits, the old Chinese doctor combined the results of the four diagnostic methods (looking, smelling, asking, and cutting) and prescribed a seemingly ordinary but secretly mysterious medicine. After taking the medicine, the patient's insomnia symptoms gradually eased and eventually recovered. The old Chinese doctor explained that this was not a secret formula, but the result of flexible application of Chinese medicine theory according to the patient's actual situation.
However, in real life, we often see that some people blindly pursue secret formulas, prescription formulas, and even spend a lot of money to buy so-called "ancestral secret formulas." They often ignore the principle of dialectical treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and think that as long as they have a secret formula, they can cure the disease. In fact, this approach may not only be ineffective, but also worsen the disease due to improper medication.
Some people may ask, why can't the secret formulas of traditional Chinese medicine be shared with the world after they expire like the patents of Western medicine? This actually involves the uniqueness and complexity of traditional Chinese medicine. The secret formulas of traditional Chinese medicine often contain the clinical experience and wisdom of doctors over many years, and they are often difficult to summarize with simple language or formulas. In addition, the secret formulas of traditional Chinese medicine also involve the selection, combination, and preparation of medicinal materials, and a slight mistake may affect the efficacy. Therefore, for the truly valuable secret formulas of traditional Chinese medicine, we should respect and protect them, rather than blindly pursue public disclosure and sharing.
Of course, we cannot deny that there are indeed some people in the field of traditional Chinese medicine who have poor medical ethics and play tricks. They use the pretense of secret formulas to cheat patients of their money and trust. This behavior not only damages the reputation of traditional Chinese medicine, but also misleads patients and delays their illness. We should resolutely condemn and crack down on such people.
So, as fans of traditional Chinese medicine, how should we view the secret formulas of traditional Chinese medicine? I believe that we should maintain a rational heart, respecting the tradition and wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine while learning to identify the authenticity with discerning eyes. When we go to see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, we must ask clearly whether the doctor's prescription has ever worked and whether there are any successful cases to support it. If the prescription has been tested in practice and is indeed effective, we should resolutely accept it; if the prescription lacks practical evidence and persuasion, we should choose carefully.
In addition, we should also realize that the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine is not only reflected in its formulas, but also in its unique theoretical system, diagnosis and treatment methods, and health-preserving concepts. We should delve into the knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, understand its principles and methods, and thus better apply the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine to maintain our own health.
In the end, I would like to summarize the theme of this article with one sentence: The secret of traditional Chinese medicine lies in discerning the right formula with keen eyes; only through dialectical treatment can the disease be cured. May we all become wise practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, using our keen eyes to understand the mysteries of traditional Chinese medicine, and using our wisdom to maintain our own health.
