BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) voiced its firm opposition to the Enhanced Games, a sporting event allowing athletes to use performance enhancing drugs.
The event, set for May 2026 in Las Vegas, has been condemned as a dangerous spectacle that threatens the foundations of sport and athlete welfare.
In the strongly worded statement on Friday, CHINADA denounced the event as "a distorted competition that turns pure sports competition into a drug contest, which serious contradicts the purpose of the World Anti-Doping Code."
"It severely threatens the physical and mental health of athletes as well as the spirit of sport. In addition, its publicity tactics reveal its nature as a capital-driven initiative," said CHINADA, adding that Enhanced Games organizers lure athletes with high prizes into risking their health and satisfying people's desire to watch a "gladiator show".
"CHINADA hereby expresses our firm opposition to any attempt to portray doping as so-called scientific advancements, and calls on the global sports community to stand united in rejecting the Enhanced Games," it said.
It also urged U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to "follow the code and International Standards and take decisive measures to oppose the Games," as USADA's response to the event has revealed "its weakness in the face of powerful interest groups and wealthy sponsors."
"Only through such efforts can the stability, harmony, and sustainable development of the global anti-doping system be effectively safeguarded," said CHINADA.
