On May 27, in Wuzi Community, Tongbai County, Nanyang City, Henan Province, the urban power supply center of State Grid Tongbai County Power Supply Company organized personnel to meticulously tighten the terminal screws of energy meters in the community’s meter boxes. This initiative is part of the company’s broader “Screw-Tightening Campaign”.

With summer electricity demand surging, loose screws on meter box terminals can lead to poor contact, causing overheating at the meter’s wiring terminals and even resulting in severe consequences such as meter box fires. To ensure a safe and stable power supply for customers, the company launched the “Screw-Tightening Campaign” ahead of the summer peak electricity period to comprehensively identify and rectify potential hazards in meter boxes.

The company mobilized customer service managers from its urban power supply center and 15 township power supply stations to adopt a “grid-based inspection + checklist-style rectification” approach. Focused inspections were conducted in older residential areas, street communities, storefronts, and distribution transformer meter boxes. Workers meticulously checked and reinforced screws in each meter box while clearing out bird nests to eliminate any potential risks. A “one-box-one-record” inspection log was established, and identified issues were addressed through a ticketing management system.

Alongside hardware maintenance, the company intensified safety awareness efforts. Through online and offline channels, it distributed summer electricity usage tips and organized teams to visit communities and inspect the homes of elderly residents living alone. Special attention was given to identifying wiring hazards in households with seniors or left-behind children. Staff also educated customers on safe electricity practices, advising them on rational, scientific, and safe power usage during high-temperature periods to enhance safety awareness. Statistics show that over 1,000 safety brochures have been distributed, and 67 customer-side hazards have been resolved.

To date, the company has tightened terminal screws in 1,192 meter boxes, replaced 105 damaged boxes, eliminated 69 potential hazards, swapped out 600 oxidized screws, and cleared 123 bird nests, involving over 300 personnel.

A company representative stated that the “Screw-Tightening Campaign” will continue, alongside intensified inspections and maintenance of power equipment. Close monitoring of Tongbai’s grid load and timely operational adjustments will ensure stable power supply, guaranteeing residents a cool and safe summer. (By Hao Zhenying)
