在确定目标期刊后，接下去就是要撰写一封写给编辑的信，即Cover Letter，一般是一页纸。

（1）写信的目的是希望通过期刊编辑的预审，即说服期刊编辑相信论文正是期刊所期望的论文，并让编辑将论文送审。

（2）为了通过期刊编辑的预审，Cover Letter中应主要突出论文内容符合期刊发表范围，论文具有创新性和重要性。

（3）其他信息则包括稿件基本信息（论文题目和类型）、论文首次发表声明、所有作者同意投稿（某些期刊要求所有作者签字）、研究动机、推荐或不推荐某些审稿人审稿。
