On May 30th, when attending the Astana International Forum (AIF), Secretary-General Zhang Jun of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held a working meeting with Xu Haoliang, United Nations Under Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Program(UNDP).
Secretary-General Zhang Jun stated that the Boao Forum for Asia was jointly initiated by 29 Asia-Pacific countries as a high-end international dialogue and exchange platform that is an NGO with official support. The Forum is based in Asia and oriented to the world, firmly promoting true multilateralism and supporting the international system centered on the United Nations. The forum remains committed to advancing regional cooperation in Asia and continuously strives in areas such as sustainable development and innovation, seeking multilateral solutions to major issues like energy transition, climate change and connectivity. The BFA is willing to strengthen cooperation with the UN system to create synergies and promote the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Under Secretary-General Xu Haoliang highly commended the efforts made by the BFA in promoting regional cooperation in Asia, as well as its proactive role in guiding direction, driving development, and fostering mutual trust and dialogue. He noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Currently, human society is facing unprecedented global challenges, making it increasingly urgent and important to uphold the authority of the UN. He welcomed cooperation between the BFA and relevant UN agencies to jointly promote sustainable development and improve global governance.
During the Astana International Conference, Secretary-General Zhang Jun also exchanged views separately with Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Daren Tang, Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and Akan Rakhmetullin, Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister and former Permanent Representative to the UN, among other friends from all walks of life, who closely follow the development of the BFA.
