Q:If we zoom into Wuhan's Optics Valley, what would you say are the defining strengths of the infrared cluster there? Can you share a concrete example—perhaps from Guide Infrared's own development?

A:You know what makes Optics Valley special? there's the "5km ecosystem"—chip designers, test labs, OEMs all within walking distance.

Let me take an example, When COVID 19 hitted, we rallied 37 local suppliers to ramp up thermal camera production to meet demand. You know thermal cameras for instant temperature reading on human body, Hundred thousand units in just 2 weeks! It was amazing, That's the power of clustering – not just making parts, but making history.

Q:From your experience, what would you identify as the most critical enablers of growth in the infrared industry? What makes that cluster happen? Is it technical expertise, supply-chain integration, or something else?

A:Ok, three factors are critical for growth: No 1. Our Core innovations, like our in-house infrared detector chips, it broke foreign monopolies and cut costs while boosting performance.

No. 2. Localized Supply Chains - In Optics Valley, you can see R&D, manufacturing, and talent are all tightly connected,That's how we scaled up.

No. 3. Policy + Diversified Demand - Chinese Government support meets our booming civilian uses.

And What makes the Cluster happen and Works? We have universities, companies, and policy align here. Lab ideas turn into products faster.

Q:When Guide Infrared pursued greater self-reliance in critical components—like chips and thermal cores—what were the main bottlenecks, and how did your team overcome them?

A:To tell you the truth, we faced three big walls. May be it’s common ones for all the guests today.

First one : High-Performance Chip Design: - Developing advanced infrared detector chips required cutting-edge semiconductor expertise. What we do is investing heavily in domestic R&D, partnering with Chinese research institutes and gradually building proprietary IP portfolios.

The second one : Thermal imaging cores demand ultra-precise fabrication with equipment like MBE or LTA machines historically imported. The solution is the same. Localizing production by sourcing domestic alternatives.

The 3rd one is Talent Gap: - The whole industry is in a shortage of engineers skilled in compound semiconductor physics and packaging. What we do is to establish training programs with universities (e.g. Wuhan university, Huazhong University of Science and Technology)

By 2024, Guide Infrared achieved >95% domestic content in its high-end thermal imagers, mass-producing 1000×1000-resolution detectors. The company's patents in wafer-level packaging and digital-analog hybrid chips now independent of Western tech.

Q:With the global trade environment becoming increasingly unpredictable, what's Guide Infrared strategies look like to manage global risk—especially in terms of keeping the resilience of its supply chains?

A:Here are layers of protection we made: Layer one: Localizing critical tech. We now make our own IR chips and thermal cores in China, reducing reliance on imports. Even the high-end series, MCT detectors, are made entirely in-house. Guess what my first position 23 years ago when I join the company? Sure, not the CEO, I am an import manager to source western IR detectors.

Layer two: Building backup options – we work with more alternative suppliers. We setup assembly lines abroad and EU R&D centers to avoid single points of failure. The result is, thanks to the Belt & Road markets, 17% export growth last year.

Q:What's your 3-to-5-year outlook for Guide Infrared and the infrared sector in China?

A:For the future I wanna say “fasten your seatbelt” to my colleagues during the 15th five year plan. The civilian market will boom. We are entering the civilian sector, combining our cutting-edge sensors with AI, big data, and middleware software to deliver tailored digital transformation solutions across industries. Mark my words – by 2028, China will drive 40% of global IR innovation.

Q:How much does China's manufacturing sector matter to a thriving global economy?

A:China’s Manufacturing Sector is the Backbone of Global Prosperity. It’s the invisible engine powering the global economy. It is Price Stabilizer for the global market. because mass production keeps everyday goods affordable. It is also Trade Shock Absorber. In a word, a thriving global economy needs China’s manufacturing not just for cost efficiency, but for innovation, stability, and sustainability.

Q:As an enterprise in the fiber optics sector at the Optics Valley. How do you evaluate the overall maturity of the cluster your company is currently at, Is there a particular product or innovation from YOFC that best represent that strength?

A:In my view, the optical fiber and cable industry has reached a very high level of maturity as a rapid growth of market scale, accelerating technological innovation and iteration, and continuous expansion of application fields.

And let me give you an example, artificial intelligence AI has become a major game-changer. Its rapid development hinges on robust fiber optic networks. In response, YOFC developed hollow-core fiber technology. This type of fiber uses an air core instead of traditional glass, creating a sort of a "tunnel" in a hair-thin fiber. This innovation, a 47% increase in transmission speed and a 31% reduction in latency, which is crucial for applications like the remote surgery, high frequency trading, and artificial supercomputing networks. Our technology is truly top-notch and YOFC stands at the forefront of the industry in the mass manufacturer of extended-length, ultra-low-loss hollow-core fibers.

At the OFC conference recently in the US, March 30 to April 2, YOFC unveiled game changing hollow-core fiber advances. The single fiber core exceeds 20 km in length, with a record-low attenuation of just 0.05 decibels per kilometer, and this marks the lowest attenuation fiber globally far surpassing the attenuation limits of existing solid core fibers.

Q:What do you see as the fundamental factors that allow the fiber optics cluster to maybe not just sustain itself, but expand, particularly in the face of rising international demand?

A:I think there are three key factors that drive the expansion of the optical fiber and cable industry cluster amid rising international demand.

The first factor is the continuous technologically innovation, which enhances product performance and reduces cost, making fiber optics more attractive. And for various applications, this is suitable.

Second, the economies of scale achieved through mass production lower the unit cost and boosting competitiveness.

And the third factor is that the industry benefits from global infrastructure growth, especially in 5G deployment and broadband expansion, and that creates high demand.

Additionally, diversified application in sectors such as healthcare, automotive, and smart cities open new markets for us. Strategic industry clusters foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation, and this strengthens the ecosystem. In addition, supportive government policies and investments further accelerate our growth. And finally a focus on quality and reliability builds, customer trust, ensuring long term demand.

Together, all these factors create a resilient industry capable of sustained expansion.

Q:As global telecom standards evolve rapidly, where does YOFC feel the most pressure?

A:With the rapid development of the optical fiber and cable industry, especially the fast evolution of global telecom standards, companies in our sector inevitably face various challenges. But I see the most pressing bottleneck lies in technology.

Our traditional fiber optic technology is already well developed and good enough for everyday communication. But with the rise of artificial intelligence and the sharp increase in data traffic, we now need more advanced solution, like the hollow-core fiber, which I mentioned earlier. These fibers, which use air in the center, can overcome traditional limits, enable very high speed network. They are ideal for 6G, high frequency trading, cloud computing, and quantum communication. However, achieving such breakthroughs in technology is quite tough. It involves solving difficult engineering problems. Even so, breaking through these tech barriers will push the entire industry forward. That's why YOFC is committed to moving in the development and use of hollow-core fibers.

Q:How has YOFC maintained competitiveness and supply continuity in the face of tariff risks and international uncertainty?

A:As to deal with global trade uncertainty, YOFC has built a strong and flexible global operating system, and our strategy is based on three key elements:developing our technology, producing locally, and setting up a diversified global layout. We have been deeply engaged in the optical fiber and cable industry for 37 years, making significant R&D investments. This long-term focus has helped us gain key technologies and build strong competitiveness. And through our internationalization, YOFC now runs 8 production facilities in six countries, Indonesia, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, and Germany. And this helps us shorten our supply chain, producing and delivering locally.

At the same time, we've expanded beyond fiber optics and into optical modules, industrial lasers, power cables, marine engineering, and consumer electronics. And this diversification helps us to stay competitive and keep delivering products even in a complex trade environment that we're facing right now.

These are not short-term reactions. They are part of our long-term development strategy, which we have followed consistently. Because of this, our adjustment process has been relatively smooth.

Q:Where do you see the biggest opportunities for YOFC and the broader optical fiber cluster?

A:I think the next 3 to 5 years are extremely important for us, but also for the industry. And we believe that AI, artificial intelligence is a driving new wave of innovation. And this is actually seen that many industries in the world are moving to a digital and intelligent system. And to support this, the demand for high-speed, low-latency optical networks will grow quickly. So this creates big opportunities for advanced fiber solutions. We see 5G networks that continue to expand, but we already see that 6G has started research, and this trend will require better optical fiber technologies. And beyond telecom, areas like smart cities, digital healthcare, and self-driving vehicles will also depend on strong fiber optic network. And all of these means there is still a lot of room for growth.

And at the same time, next generation fiber technologies, like I mentioned, the hollow-core fiber, will change how fast and efficient data can move. So companies that lead in commercialization, these new technologies will gain a major advantage.
