Jinan University (JNU) is known as a "hub for Macao talents". With the largest number of Macao students among universities in the Chinese Mainland, JNU has over 30,000 alumni in Macao-a SAR of over 600,000 people-spanning sectors like healthcare, media, and finance. In Macao's public healthcare system alone, JNU alumni are about 480, accounting for nearly 70%. In the financial sector, the alumni make up nearly 300 employees at the Bank of China, Macao's largest financial institution. In 2021, seven of the 33 legislators elected in the seventh Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR are JNU alumni.

JNU reopened in Guangzhou in 1978, establishing a medical school, the first of its kind founded by a university covering comprehensive disciplines in China. At the time, modern medical education in Macao was still developing, prompting many Macao residents to study medicine on the Chinese mainland. Ho Son Fat, now head of the urology department at Conde S. Januário Hospital (CHCSJ), was among the students who enrolled in JNU medical school in 1983. "Back then, more than 20 of my classmates from Macao came to JNU for its reputation. We've grown into a significant group in Macao, serving as the backbone of the medical field," said Ho with a smile. "During my time at JNU, I not only built a solid academic foundation but also found my love-both my wife and sister-in-law are JNU alumni from Macao."

In the media sector, about 70% of the staff in the interview department of Macao's largest newspaper, Macao Daily News, are JNU alumni. One notable example is Choi Chi Tou, the chief editor of Macao Daily News and secretary-general of the Macao Journalists Association (AJM). Choi has witnessed historic events such as the return of Hong Kong and Macao to China. Choi remains dedicated to narrating the development of the "one country, two systems" framework and telling compelling stories about China, the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and Macao.

JNU is also a pioneer in higher education reform for overseas Chinese and a hub for cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talent in the GBA. Recognized as a model university for innovation and entrepreneurship, it fosters a free and inclusive academic environment that encourages creativity. Ho Son Fat received the "Fok Ying Tung Award for Outstanding Chinese Physicians in the World" for his contributions to medical innovation, while alumna Lei Wai Yan benefited from creative teaching to win the "Galaxy Award."

There are numerous Macao associations at JNU, where Macao alumni play a key role in many of them. They also founded the alumni association to promote local prosperity. For example, after Typhoon Hato, alumni established a volunteer team that served over 7,000 elderly residents and distributed medicine worth more than 500,000 patacas. The JNU Macao Students' Union, established in 1995, has helped students adapt to life in the Chinese Mainland and recently launched training programs to enhance students' overall abilities. Through such efforts, JNU continues to inject vitality into Macao's development, fostering a large number of outstanding talents.
