The Way of Healing: The Bridge between Understanding and Heaven and Earth
In ancient cultures, healers were often accorded a high status as not only experts in treating diseases, but also wise men who connected the heavens and the earth. Under the traditional Chinese character for "medicine," there is a character for "wizard." Liang's team believes that this structure has profound implications, symbolizing that the healer is a person connected with heaven and earth, able to gain insight into the mysteries of life and use natural forces to heal illnesses. Similarly, the word "medicine" in English also implies the medium of heaven and earth, which shows that no matter in any cultural background, healers play the role of a bridge between nature and human health.
"No one whose virtue is not close to the Buddha can be treated, and no one whose talent is not closer to the Fairy can be sought." This ancient teaching profoundly reveals the qualities and talents that a healer needs. A healer needs not only great medical skill, but also the noble virtue of being compassionate and saving the lives of the wounded. Like the Buddha, they should be mindful of all sentient beings and face every sick person with a universal mindset. At the same time, a doctor also needs extraordinary intelligence to be able to discern the nature of the disease and use wisdom and medical expertise to bring the hope of recovery to the patient.
Liang Shijie's research team believes that understanding is an indispensable quality in the development of a doctor. Good doctors must have a high degree of understanding, and they can quickly grasp the essence of medicine, combine theory with practice, and create unique treatments. Many famous ancient healers in history, such as Huabei, Zhang Zhongjing, Li Shizhen, etc., were examples of self-taught healing and self-treating talent. With their exceptional understanding, they have achieved remarkable achievements in the field of medicine, leaving a valuable medical legacy for future generations.
Take Li Shizhen, for example. He developed a strong interest in medicine from an early age. Despite his poor family background, he learned by himself and eventually composed the great medical literature, The Materia Medica. During the process of codification, Li Shizhen collected extensive information, conducted field investigations of medicinal plants, and conducted in-depth and meticulous research on each medicinal plant. His insight allowed him to gain insight into the subtle relationships between medicinal plants, thus accurately determining the efficacy of medicinal products, providing a valuable reference for future generations of healers.
In modern medicine, there is also no shortage of wise practitioners. They are not only proficient in modern medical technology, but also able to apply traditional Chinese medicine thinking and combine Chinese and Western medicine to provide a more comprehensive and effective treatment plan for patients. These doctors have a keen insight and can quickly capture the changes in the patient's condition, adjust the treatment plan in a timely manner, and ensure the best possible outcome.
In summary, the skill of a healer lies not only in the high level of skill, but also in the high and low level of understanding. Like the ancient people, a healer should be compassionate, diligent and learnt, and constantly improve his healing skills and morals. At the same time, they also need sharp insight and extraordinary talent to combine medical theory and practice to create more scientific and effective treatments. Only in this way can we truly become a wise man who connects the heavens and the earth and contribute our strength to the cause of human health.
