Chaka Salt Lake, located in Qinghai Province, is an inland salt lake in the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Millions of years ago, the collision between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate led to the uplifting and formation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Geological movements caused surface water to gather, forming Chaka Salt Lake.
Chaka Salt Lake is known for its unique natural landscape and is dubbed the "Mirror of the Sky". The bottom of the salt lake has a thick layer of rock salt, covered by a shallow layer of brine. Standing on the rock salt layer feels like floating on the surface of water. When sunlight shines on the calm lake surface, the reflections of snow-capped mountains, blue skies, and white clouds are clearly visible, showcasing the mystery and beauty of the Earth in full display.
Chaka Salt Lake not only enjoys a unique natural landscape but also has a deep historical and cultural heritage. According to historical records, Chaka Salt Lake was once known as Xianchi or Yanchi, and it had been well-known since the Warring States period. This place was a key point on the ancient Qinghai-Tibet and Tang-Bo Ancient Roads, where merchants and travelers would replenish their salt supplies. The blue salt produced in Chaka Salt Lake is large in crystal size and pure in quality, making it an ideal edible salt and an important trade commodity in ancient times.
