Since arriving in China in 2006, Ouattara Sie, a teacher from Côte d'Ivoire at Beijing University of Technology, has witnessed nearly two decades of China's journey of openness and development.

"China's policies of openness have been crucial in driving economic growth and integrating the country into the global economy. These efforts have led China to become a major global player in openness", said Ouattara in a recent interview with China Youth Daily.

Ouattara highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a key example of China's open policy, which has attracted global trade and investment opportunities. "Unlike some Western countries, China provides assistance to developing countries under the principle of non-interference in internal affairs", he noted.

"China's zero-tariff treatment for certain countries exemplifies its commitment to helping developing countries and reflects the country's broad-minded approach." According to Ouattara, China's cooperation with Africa, including the sharing of technology in infrastructure development, has significantly improved local economic conditions and created more opportunities for growth. At the same time, African countries export various natural resources to China, making China-Africa cooperation mutually beneficial.

"I hope that by 2025, China will expand its list of visa-free countries, especially for African countries", Ouattara stated. He stressed that the visa-free policy has attracted many international tourists to China, and that further simplifying procedures for foreigners to visit and work in China could strengthen China's position as a global economic leader.

"China's commitment to shared development is admirable and worthy of emulation by other nations", Ouattara said. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for deeper China-Africa cooperation in areas such as technology and the digital economy, infrastructure construction, and research on agriculture and food security.
