On January 8, the Hurun Research Institute released the Hurun Future Unicorns – Global Gazelles Index 2024, a list of the world's start-ups founded in the 2000s but not yet listed on a public exchange and most likely to "go unicorn", (meaning hitting a valuation of US$1bln) within three years. This is the fourth year the institute has launched the Hurun Gazelles Index on a global level. China has 258 Hurun Gazelles on the list, including two from Changsha City.

According to the Hurun Research Institute, there are 803 Gazelles worldwide, marking a 17% increase from 688 in 2023. In China, the number of Gazelles has risen to 258, up 18% from 218 in the previous year. Among the 302 new entries, 61 are from China.

Hurun Report Chairman and Chief Researcher Rupert Hoogewerf noted that Hurun Gazelles represent the most exciting startups in the world that are most likely to "go unicorn" within three years. Their animal counterpart is known for its agility and incredible bursts of speed, reaching nearly 100 km/h. Similarly, Hurun Gazelles must move quickly; otherwise, like their animal counterparts, they risk being overtaken and may never achieve the status of a Hurun Unicorn.

The two listed Changsha enterprises are Saturnbird, a catering industry enterprise and Miracle Miles, a footwear and clothing enterprise. 

Saturnbird, led by Wu Jun, once again made the list. The company has been favored by CITIC PE, IDG Capital, NX Fund and other investment institutions.

Miracle Miles, run by Lin Yang, are favored by HongShan Capital Group and IDG Capital. Public information shows that the company's products are available on Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and other online sales platforms, and they are sold to more than 10 countries and regions in North America, Europe, and Asia.
