八十年代,我有幸拜一位年纪60有余的李老师为师了,他毕业于北京燕京大学,跟学习对外英文写作。大家尊称他为李老师。他早期在天津新学书院的养正学堂专门学习英文,养正学堂是英国基督教伦敦会的圣经学校是在天津最早的创办学堂。80年初,他返聘担任英文秘书。初次听李老师说英语,他发音非常地道、铿锵有力有“磁性”,他是按照国际音标浊辅音和后元音的标准来发音。他说写英语地道、其“味道”十足。这让我终身难忘有这么五件事情。
第一件事、逻辑思维是灵魂
记得有一件事,对我触动真是太大了。李老师让我写对外英语函,只给我保留了一句话:I thank you for your letter dated Dec. 24, 1980.(这句英文的中文意思是:感谢贵方1980年12月24日的来函)。这件事对我震动特别大,我感到自己与所承担的工作要求差距太大了。从那以后从点点滴滴学起,我把李老师的真经学到手。他经常对我说:“英语是逻辑语言,不是模板语言,逻辑是英语的灵魂”,所以就逻辑思维李老师经常告诉我:英语逻辑思维是人们以概念判断来推理,反映客观事实的认识过程,英语写作正是写作者就客观事实内容,提出认识、表达思想,必须用逻辑思维写英语。李老师说的英语逻辑思维就是:对一件事用概念判断,作出合理原因和结果的分析,用想到的措施以及方案来圆满地解决实际问题。
第二件事、写作方法
李老师为了能够使我尽快提高英语写作水平,为我专门制定了学习英语写作三个方案:
方案(一)用英语逻辑思维法写英语:以观点为中心,左找原因,右找结果,通过一因一果、一因多果、多因一果、多因多果,来完成英文写作;
方案(二)用“五不如一”口诀:看五遍不如读一遍;读五遍不如背一遍;背五遍不如写一遍;写五遍不如默一遍;默五遍不如用一遍,来学习应用英文写作五个句型和扩展句子;
方案(三)为我制定英语写作“一表三图四方法六优化”图解表格十多张,帮助我写出优秀英文。
这三方案让我英文写作大开眼界,更加喜欢上了英文写作。为此我还利用业余时间完成了高自考高级英语的学习并拿到《天津高等教育自学考试委员会颁发的英语高级证书》,同时还完成了财大学在职学习,这样我在日后的工作中如鱼得水,信心倍增。
第三件事、实战练习
从实战英文写作,李老师给我出练习题:从基础英文写作专业到工作实际问题交涉、英语写作从内容到逻辑、从逻辑到词句法,以至于标点符号,都手把手地给我修改调整,从而我写作英文水平有了提高。有一次,李老师让我写对外英文,根据领导的要求,李老师安排我来完成这个任务。我没想到李老师看后只对个别词语进行了修改,然后就签字通过,然后寄往国外解决对外工作交涉问题。这与李老师的辛勤付出和我的不懈努力分不开的,验证了“功夫不负有心人”的话。
第四件事、提高水平
改变了:我从“没有词儿写”,到“有词儿写”而且知道“有词儿怎么写”的科学思维步骤,通过逻辑单句例句汇总表、逻辑组合汇总表,以及掌握了“内容·逻辑·语法”三位一体,看作是英语写作的必备工具和“衍生产品”。由此语法及其模板的问题就会迎韧而解了,写英思路拓展、具有竞技性、艺术性和多样性。“英语写作不靠模板靠逻辑”,我天天听李老师说这句口头禅,让我明白了英文写作之真谛——英语是逻辑语言;不是模板语言;逻辑是英语的灵魂。
李老师对我写英文的“精雕细刻”,我不仅学到了精湛的英文的知识,也成功得到国外单位的认可。
