David W. Ferguson, honorary chief English editor at Foreign Languages Press, believes that Zhejiang has done a good job in playing to its geographical strengths. He used several “impressive” in his book China's Development in the New Era - the Zhejiang Experience, recording his visit to Ningbo-Zhoushan Port.

在宁波舟山港核心港区之一的金塘港区，大卫见到了高度自动化的工作流程。码头上基本看不到工作人员，无人集卡、龙门吊、远控桥吊自动运转。货轮上的集装箱被桥吊和穿梭其间的无人集卡来回运送。满载希望的货轮扬帆远航，大宗商品资源配置枢纽的建设如火如荼。

At the port's Jintang Harbor District, one of its core areas, Ferguson witnessed highly automated operations: 117 unmanned container trucks, 64 fully automated gantry cranes, and 22 remotely controlled bridge cranes—all operating with minimal human presence. Containers were seamlessly transported between ships and trucks, while cargo vessels brimming with global aspirations set sail. The port’s role as a pivotal hub for bulk commodity allocation is rapidly expanding.

宁波舟山港2024年共完成货物吞吐量超过13.7亿吨，创历史新高，居世界第一。其中，完成集装箱吞吐量3930万标准箱，同比增长11.3%。

In 2024, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port achieved a historic cargo throughput of 1.37 billion tons, ranking first globally. Its container throughput reached 39.3 million TEUs, up 11.3 percent year-on-year.
