Task based Teaching Method: Design various reading tasks, discussion tasks, and writing tasks to guide students to actively engage in learning and complete learning objectives.

IV. Teaching Procedures

1. Warming up (5 minutes)

Show some pictures of famous athletes winning medals or breaking records in different sports, such as Usain Bolt in track and field, Michael Phelps in swimming. Then ask students: “Do you know these athletes? What sports are they good at? What achievements have they made?” Encourage students to share their knowledge of famous athletes and their achievements, which can arouse students' interest and lead to the topic of sports achievements.

2. Pre - listening (8 minutes)

Let students look at the title “Big News from Sunshine School” and the pictures in the text. Then ask them to predict what the text might be about. For example, ask “What do you think the big news from Sunshine School could be? Who do you think it might involve?” Guide students to make predictions based on the title and pictures, which can help them better understand the text when reading.

Sunshine School

Breaking news

Tim Simons in Grade 1 7 won a gold medal at the City Swim Meet again!Tim broke his own record from 2 last year.

This is the 3 fifth gold medal for Tim and our school. We are so proud of him!The school radio station will 4 talk to Tim and learn about his 5 story . Don’t forget to listen at 4 pm this 6 Thursday !

Careful listening

Divide the text into several parts. Let students read each part carefully and answer the following questions:

For the part about Tim's basic information: “How old is Tim Simons? When did he start swimming?”

For the part about his achievement: “What did Tim do at the City Swim Meet? Did he break any records?”

For the part about his feelings and others' reactions: “How did Tim feel when he won the gold medal? What did his coach and parents say?”

4. Post - listening (12 minutes)

3 Listen and complete the interview.

How did you start swimming?

I wasn’t very strong as a kid. So my parents took me to the

1 pool. I had to move my whole 2 body to swim.

I became fit and strong. It was also good for 3 my heart .

How did you become a swimmer?

I joined a swimming race at the age of 4 10/ten. I swam

just for fun. But to everyone’s surprise, I5 won! Then I

realised that swimming 6 helped me so much.

Role - play

Ask students to act out an interview. One student acts as a reporter, and the other acts as Tim Simons. The reporter asks questions about Tim's swimming experience, achievements, and feelings, and “Tim Simons” answers based on the text and their imagination. For example, the reporter can ask “When did you first realize that you were good at swimming?” “How do you feel about winning the gold medal?” etc.

5. Summary

Summarize the key points of the text with students, including Tim Simons' achievements, his swimming journey. Review the new words and phrases learned in this class. Let students read them aloud several times to strengthen their memory.

Homework

Ask students to write a short passage about an athlete they admire. The passage should include the athlete's basic information, achievements, and the reasons why they admire him or her, at least 80 words.

Search for more information about a sports event and share it with the class next time.

V. Teaching Reflection

After the class, think about whether the teaching methods are suitable for students, whether students can actively participate in classroom activities, and whether the teaching objectives are achieved. Pay attention to students' difficulties in understanding the text and using English, and adjust teaching strategies in a timely manner.
