Boao, March 26, 2025 — Speaking at the roundtable “Achieving Inclusive Globalization: Pathways and Actions” at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025, Sardor UMURZAKOV, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, emphasized that globalization is not ending, but entering a new phase that is more fragmented, multipolar, and pragmatic. He urged global leaders to embrace a model of globalization that prioritizes inclusiveness, equity, and cooperation.
UMURZAKOV noted that recent global transformations in economics, geopolitics, and technology challenge the effectiveness of past frameworks. He stressed that while globalization is evolving, it remains an irreversible and essential process.
UMURZAKOV argued that inclusive globalization must ensure fair access to opportunities within the global economy, including the removal of artificial trade and investment barriers, improved connectivity, and the development of human capital. It must also respect each country’s unique development path, culture, and history. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of collective action to tackle global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and food insecurity.
On the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO), UMURZAKOV called for modernization to reflect today’s global landscape. He highlighted the need to revise trade rules that currently hinder developing countries from accessing global markets and underscored the importance of maintaining a fair, open, and predictable trading system.
In closing, UMURZAKOV emphasized that globalization must serve as a means to improve lives and foster technological progress, especially by amplifying the voices of developing countries and advancing inclusive access to connectivity, green growth, and emerging technologies. Boao, he noted, should mark the starting point for concrete action toward a more inclusive global future.
