The 2025 World Athletics Relays will occur from May 10th to 11th at the Tianhe Sports Center in Guangzhou. As the premier event in track relay competitions, the World Athletics Relays have been held six times previously in the Bahamas, Japan, and Poland, with this edition marking China's debut as the host. The newly renovated Tianhe Sports Center will make its first appearance, and the newly added 4x100m mixed relay will also premiere at this event.

According to the competition rules published by World Athletics, the two-day World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou will feature five events in total, including the men's and women's 4x100m relays, men's and women's 4x400m relays, and the mixed 4x400m relay in addition to the 4x100m mixed relay. The top 14 teams in these events will earn direct qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. This Guangzhou event can be seen as a "gateway battle" to the Tokyo Championships.

The first day of the competition will feature the first round of the qualification races, with 32 teams in each event divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will advance directly to the finals on the second day and secure their Tokyo Championships berths. The remaining 24 teams will compete in the second qualification roundon the following day, with the top two teams from each group also securing their Tokyo spots. The last two spots for the World Championships will be determined based on top listsduring the qualification period (February 25th, 2024, to August 24th, 2025), giving all teams two potential opportunities for direct qualification. In the finals, the global sprint stars will compete not only for honor and dreams but also for preferential lane assignments and seeding positions at the Tokyo Championships.

According to the prize distribution scheme announced by World Athletics, the gold, silver, and bronze medalists in the men's and women's 4x100m/4x400m relaysand mixed 4x400m relay will receive US$40,000, US$20,000, and US$10,000, respectively. For the newly added mixed 4x100m relay, the prizes are US$28,000, US$14,000, and US$6,000.

The participating teams at the event come from 43 countries and regions, with a total of 1,057 participants, including 727 athletes (403 men and 324 women). Alongside sprint legends such as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Wayde van Niekerk, and Yohan Blake, eight Guangdong athletes, including Liang Xiaojing, Mo Jiadie, Chen Guanfeng, Shi Junhao, Li Yiqing, Liang Baotang, Kong Yingying, and Huang Shuping, will showcase the "Guangdong Speed" at their hometown.

Notably, the mixed 4x100m relay will be held at the Tianhe Sports Center. As World Athletics will officially recognize world records for this event starting January 1st, 2026, Guangzhou may witness the creation of an "unofficial world record." According to the competition rules, two women will run the first two legs and two men will anchor the final two, an innovative baton exchange format adding to the event's allure.

根据世界田联公布的竞赛规程，在广州进行的为期两天的世界田联接力赛上，除男女混合4×100米接力外，男、女子4×100米接力，男、女子4×400米接力，男女混合4×400米接力共5个项目，排名前14的队伍将直接获得今年东京世锦赛的参赛资格，本次广州接力赛也堪称直通东京世锦赛的“门槛战”。

首个比赛日将上演资格赛第1轮，每个项目的32支队伍将分成四个小组展开比拼，每个小组的前两名将直接获得东京世锦赛入场券，并挺进次日的决赛。各个项目余下的24支队伍将在次日的资格赛第2轮进行对决，小组前两名将锁定东京世锦赛门票。最后两个世锦赛名额将根据达标期（2024年2月25日至2025年8月24日）内的世界田联积分排名确定归属，对于所有参赛队来说理论上存在两次直通世锦赛的机会。在次日的决赛上，“世界飞人”不仅要为荣誉和梦想而战，更要为东京世锦赛的优先道次和种子位置而战。

在世界田联官方公布的奖金分配方案中，男、女子4×100米接力，男、女子4×400米接力，男女混合4×400米接力的冠亚季军将分别获得4万美元、2万美元、1万美元的奖金，男女混合4×100米接力的冠亚季军奖金分别为2.8万美元、1.4万美元和6000美元。

在世界田联公布的参赛名单中，参赛国家及地区数量共计43个，参赛队人数共计1057人，其中运动员727人（男子403人，女子324人）。除了短跑传奇弗雷泽、“全栖速度王”范尼凯克、“常青树”布雷克等世界名将，梁小静、莫家蝶、陈冠锋、施君豪、李懿卿、梁宝棠、孔莹蓥和黄淑萍八名广东选手，将在家门口施展“广东速度”。

此外，全新设项的男女混合4×100米接力将在天体闪亮登场，由于世界田联将于2026年1月1日起正式承认该项目的世界纪录，广州有望见证“非正式世界纪录”的诞生。根据竞赛规程，4×100米男女混合接力的前两棒为女选手，后两棒为男选手，这一全新交接棒规则也将备受期待。
