On May 21st, the newly upgraded distribution equipment on Fengfu Road in Qinhuai District, Nanjing, underwent its inaugural inspection. At 10:00 AM, a team from the Second Service Center of State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company meticulously examined the equipment, utilizing techniques like partial discharge detection and infrared thermography to check for any potential issues and guarantee its reliable performance.

The power equipment supplying power along Fengfu Road was built in the 1990s. Its outdated appearance not only affected aesthetics but also posed safety hazards. Furthermore, the existing power load capacity was insufficient to meet the development needs of the popular district. Effective December 2024, State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company, in conjunction with the relevant authorities of Qinhuai District and Chaotiangong Subdistrict, implemented a rejuvenation program for the outdated power supply infrastructure on Fengfu Road, in accordance with the urban renewal plan.

The ongoing renovation project of the old distribution equipment on Fengfu Road involves upgrading 7 ring main units and 12 distribution transformers along the 600-meter street, implementing pole line undergrounding for approximately 100 meters of overhead lines, and constructing about 70 meters of new cable channels to provide sufficient capacity for future load increases. The project is structured around six distinct phases, with full completion anticipated by the end of June. As of May 20th, the fourth phase has been successfully completed.

After the upgrade, the average age of the main equipment of the entire power supply line will drop from 18.4 years to 3.1 years (a decrease of about 83%). While improving aesthetics, all equipment switches will be equipped with automated “telemetry, telecontrol, and remote signaling” capabilities, significantly enhancing the level of intelligence. By improving the power supply capacity and reliability in the core urban area, this project also paves the way for future developments, including the renewal of the Xinjiekou commercial district, the installation of charging infrastructure, and the electrification of the food street, by providing sufficient power reserves.

The renovation of the aging distribution equipment on Fengfu Road is a crucial undertaking for State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company in its efforts to upgrade outdated infrastructure this year. It also serves as a microcosm of the company’s broader initiative to establish Nanjing as a leading example of high-power supply reliability in China.

It is understood that last year, the power supply reliability rate in Nanjing remained the first in the province, and the average annual power outage time per household was reduced by 4.2 minutes. This year, State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company has established a “lean and refined” power supply reliability management system, pressing the “three responsibilities” of professional management, territorial responsibility, and support guarantee. Guided by the principle of “balanced progress on all targets and a practical, down-to-earth approach” in each area, they are continuously refining the “five-dimensional system” encompassing network structure, equipment, emergency preparedness, service quality, and low-voltage networks.

State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company employed a non-interruptive working method, using an all-terrain insulated bucket truck, to install fuse links on porcelain insulators for the 10kV Shibuwan No. 2 Line, ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
