对于它不能替代其它什么从句？能否直接使用或必须与"连词结合"才能使用？概述如下:

(一) 过去分词结构…只能替代"被动语态的状语从句"。

A/替代"时间状语从句"时，可直接使用，前面可不加任何连词。

★when it is viewed from a distance，the island of Diaoyu Dao looks like a high bulding.

从远处望去，钓鱼岛更像是一座高大的建筑。

替代被动从句:

Viewed from a distance, Diaoyu Dao looks like a high building.

(从句中is viewed...是被动语态，故用过去分词替代。而分词动作表示主语当时的另一伴随动作，不需再加when进行赘述时间)。

B/ 替代"让步状语从句时"，则必须使用"连词+过去分词"形式

★Although it was built before the war, the engine is still in perfect order.

(过去时被动语态句)

替代被动从句:

Although built before the war, the engine is still in perfect order。

C/替代"条件状语从句"时，必须使用"连词+过去分词"形式

★If you are accepted for this post, you will be informed by may 1st.

(现在时被动语态)

如果你被这个职位接受，你将在5月1日前被通知。

替代被动从句:

If accepted for this post, you will be informed by may 1st.

(If...不能删掉，因其强调的是条件，如删掉则意义不详)。

★Unless it is changed, this law will make life more difficult for the Ordinary people.

(被动语态句)

除非对其修改，否则这条法律将使普通百姓的生活更加困难。

替代被动从句

Unless changed, this law will make life more difficult for the ordinary people.

(Unless...不能删掉)

(二)在after、before、since、on、in之后，不能直接使用"过去分词结构"，必须用"being + 过去分词"的结构

(因其是介词，后面必须跟用名词性的词汇)。

★After we were informed that the flight would be delayed, we made other arrangements immediately.

在被告知航班将延误后，我们立即做了其他安排。 Being+P.P替代句:

After being informed the flight would be delayed, we made other arrangements immediately.

(删掉了that, 不影响句意)。

★Before hewas asked to leave，he had already finished his work.

在被要求离开之前，他已经完成了他的工作。 Being+P.P替代句:

Before being asked to leave, he had already finished his work.

★Since she was promoted，she has been working even harder.

自从她被提升后，她就更加努力地工作了。

Being+P.P替代句:

Since being promoted, she has been working even harder.

(三)过去分词结构可以替代"被动语态定语从句"

(需将引导词which+is删掉)

The system which is used in this school is very successful.

这所学校使用的系统是非常成功的。

替代被动定语从句:

The system used in this school is very successful.

★The book ‌that was written by Mark Twain‌ is very interesting.

马克·吐温写的这本书非常有趣。

替代被动定语从句:

The book ‌written by Mark Twain‌ is very interesting.

结论:

过去分词结构，

可以替代: 状语从句、定语从句。

不能替代:

主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句、同位语从句。
