According to recent data from the Hunan General Station of Immigration Inspection, from January 1 to May 30, 2025, Zhangjiajie port has handled more than 200,000 inbound and outbound trips, reaching the milestone five days earlier than last year and setting a new record high. Among them, 193,000 trips were made by foreign nationals, accounting for 96% of the total.
During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the Zhangjiajie port was expected to handle 38 inbound and outbound flights and over 6,000 entries and exits, marking year-on-year increases of 17% and 19%, respectively. A travel peak was seen on May 31, with over 2,500 border crossings and 15 flights processed.
Since the beginning of this year, the Zhangjiajie port has operated international passenger routes connecting 14 cities across seven countries and regions, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Cheongju, and Jeju in South Korea; Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia; Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam; Bangkok in Thailand; Jakarta in Indonesia; and, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.
"The inbound tourism market continues to heat up, driven by a policy mix featuring unilateral visa exemptions, mutual visa exemptions, and visa-free transit," said Zeng Minghui, head of the Zhangjiajie Station of Immigration Inspection. 91% of inbound foreign travelers benefited from visa-free policies, including mutual visa exemptions, unilateral visa exemptions, and the 240-hour visa-free transit policy, while 99.9% entered through Zhangjiajie for tourism purposes. South Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam were the top three sources of tourists.
Wang Ying, deputy director of the Immigration Inspection Department of the Hunan General Station of Immigration Inspection, noted that this year, the station has fully implemented a strategic plan blueprinted by the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People's Government to accelerate the building of a world-class tourist destination. Initiatives include the "Three Hubs and Four New Missions: Frontier Inspection Escort" campaign and the implementation of the "Twelve Measures to Promote Inbound Tourism in Hunan." Immigration management services have been integrated into the "Comprehensive Service Centers for Foreign Nationals" at Changsha and Zhangjiajie airports. The 12367 immigration service hotline offers 24/7 multilingual support in Chinese, English, Russian, Japanese, and Korean. A one-stop service for issuing and inspecting "Temporary Entry Permits" has been introduced, along with measures allowing foreigners to pre-apply for and complete arrival cards in advance for swift clearance upon landing. Additionally, foreign-language service teams have been established to provide guidance on customs clearance and policy interpretation.
