Dr. Liang Shijie's Story of Leaving the Hospital and Going into Business: A Transformation from an Insider to a Medical Practitioner in the Underworld
Looking back at that spring in 2005, I resolutely stepped out of the system and embarked on the journey of social medicine. At that time, I had both the trepidation of the unknown and the longing for free medical practice in my heart. I knew that by taking this step, I would be able to soar like a fish in the vast ocean and fly like a bird in the boundless sky.
During my days in the system, I was a doctor in the outpatient department of a tertiary hospital. Although the facility was complete and the staff was complete, the tedious administrative affairs and layers of constraints made it difficult for me to devote myself to medical practice. I longed to be able to truly communicate with patients, understand their needs, and use my medical skills to relieve their pain. However, there were not many such opportunities in the system.
So, I chose to leave. I dived into the clinics and communities of socialized medicine, and got to know the people at the bottom of society. Here, I saw the hardships and difficulties of life, and felt the power of a doctor's compassionate heart. I began to try to combine the theoretical knowledge of the traditional Chinese medicine school with the practical experience of the folk school, and constantly struggled and refined my character and medical skills.
In those days, I experienced a lot. I couldn't sleep all night because of a case, and I blamed myself for a misdiagnosis. But it was these experiences that made me more determined in my belief - to be a true doctor and bring health and hope to patients.
In the capital, I had the honor of being taught by Professor Chen Yong, and I also had the opportunity to learn from the academic thoughts of Guan Youbo, a famous doctor in Beijing, and Professor Jiao Shude, a giant of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. The wisdom and experience of these predecessors greatly benefited me. I constantly summarized and refined, combining their academic thoughts with my own clinical practice, and gradually formed my own medical style.
In the blink of an eye, twenty years have passed. Looking back on this journey, I have many feelings. Although I have left the stable life within the system, I have gained more freedom and satisfaction. Here, I can devote myself wholeheartedly to medical practice and serve patients with my medical skills. Although I am unknown, I feel extremely fulfilled and happy.
In these twenty years, I have witnessed the progress and development of medicine, as well as the changes and vicissitudes of society. But no matter how the times change, I have always adhered to my original intention - to be a true doctor and bring health and hope to patients.
Now, I stand at a new starting point, looking back at the past and looking forward to the future. I know that the road ahead is still long, but I will continue to move forward with determination. Because I know that although the path of medicine is difficult, as long as we have dreams and continue to move forward, we will definitely create a better future.
Finally, I want to say that although I was once a member of the system, now I cherish this hard-won freedom and satisfaction even more. I will continue to use my medical skills to contribute to the people of the capital until the very end of my life.
