她说：“俄罗斯对中国说，‘我们参加了第二次世界大战，我们赢得了第二次世界大战，我们打败了纳粹’，我想，‘好吧，这倒是一件新鲜事（something new）’。”
卡拉斯还教育现场听众要多读书，“如果你对历史略知一二，你就会对此怀疑。如今人们读书少，对历史也不重视，所以很多人都相信这种说法。”
Kallas questioned the contributions of China and Russia in the global Anti-Fascist War, saying: "Russia was addressing China as if to say, 'Russia and China fought in World War II, we won the war, and we defeated the Nazis.' And I'm like, okay, that's something new. If you know history, it raises a lot of question marks in your head. But I can tell you, nowadays people don’t really read or remember history that much, which is why you can see that they buy into these narratives."
卡拉斯的此番荒诞言论很快在国外社交媒体发酵，大量网友对她的言论进行批判和驳斥。
资深媒体人陈卫华在社交媒体X上连发多条推文，严厉批评卡拉斯的错误言论：“她到底上过学没？欧盟之耻！”

他还表示：“4.5亿欧盟公民应当为卡拉斯在全球舞台上代表他们发表如此无知的言论感到羞耻。送她回小学去学学历史吧。”

X平台上，更多网友怒怼卡拉斯：“作为欧盟外交政策负责人，她居然不知道中国和俄罗斯是二战的战胜国，不知道她会如何解释中俄是联合国安理会常任理事国。”

在YouTube上，该会议视频的评论区也被批评留言淹没了。大量网友质疑她是怎么当上欧盟高官的。
有网友直言，“我都替她感到尴尬。”
还有网友称，“真不知道她这么无知是怎么当选欧盟这么重要的职位的，她说其他人不读历史简直就是笑话。”
还有网友指出， “这真是我听政客说过的最丢人的话了。你该为此丢掉乌纱帽，这辈子都被人嘲笑才对。难怪欧洲正在急剧走向衰落，只因掌权者竟为这般人物。”
有的网友则在评论区为卡拉斯“补上历史课”：“倘若没有苏联的抵抗，整个欧洲早已被德国征服；倘若没有中国的坚守，整个亚洲恐怕已被日本占领。然而，她竟将这般巨大的牺牲，称作‘没有作出巨大牺牲’。”
外交部：欧盟官员言论充满意识形态偏见，缺乏基本历史常识
卡拉斯于同日还称，中方“9·3”纪念活动期间，中国同俄罗斯、伊朗、朝鲜站在一起，“不仅是在反西方，也是在直接挑战基于规则的国际秩序”。
针对卡拉斯的一系列错误言论，中国外交部发言人郭嘉昆在9月4日的例行记者会上作出明确回应：“欧盟有关官员的言论充满意识形态偏见，缺乏基本历史常识，公然鼓噪对立对抗，既是对二战历史的不尊重，也损害欧方自身利益，十分错误、极不负责。中方对此坚决反对，强烈谴责。”
The statements by the relevant EU official are full of ideological bias without basic historical common sense, and blatantly stoke rivalry and confrontation. It's a disrespect to the history of World War II and harms the EU's own interests. It's very wrongful and irresponsible. China firmly opposes and condemns that.
郭嘉昆强调，中国人民抗日战争是世界反法西斯战争的重要组成部分。80年前，中国人民以巨大的民族牺牲，为拯救人类文明、保卫世界和平作出了重大贡献。在此过程中，俄罗斯、美国以及一些欧洲国家的友好人士向中国人民抵抗侵略提供了宝贵援助和支持，“只有铭记历史，才能真正捍卫和平”。
