On the evening of September 16th, the opening ceremony of the 5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Fest

On the evening of September 16th, the opening ceremony of the 5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival is held at the Guangzhou Opera House. Running until October 16th, the Festival will present over 100 high-quality performances, 19 art exhibitions, more than 150 public welfare performances and a series of art lectures, presenting a cultural and artistic feast for people in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to enjoy.

The Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre of Russia made its debut in Shenzhen, staging the plays "Eugene Onegin" and "Uncle Vanya" at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen; Matthew Bourne's "Swan Lake" returned to Guangzhou after a wait of six years and presented five consecutive shows at the Guangzhou Opera House; the Greek National Opera made its first appearance in the GBA with a performance of the classic opera La Traviata in Shenzhen. At this year's festival, residents of the GBA can enjoy these high-caliber performances from abroad "on their doorstep."

The GBA is both a key engine of China's economic development and a frontier for cultural exchange. Its economic prosperity provides a material foundation for bringing in high-caliber performances. According to data from the Guangdong Performance Industry Association, Guangdong province alone held 546 large-scale commercial performancesin 2024, and box office revenue reached 3.734 billionyuan, both figures ranking first nationwide.

"More than just a showcase platform, the festival profoundly 'gives back' and nourishes the local cultural and artistic ecosystem," said Huang Qian. The festival builds platforms for exchange, catalyzes artistic innovation and cooperation, expands market space, and helps local works to "go out"and "bring in."
