On January 8, the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held the Press Conference of the BFA Annual Conference 2025. Secretary General Zhang Jun briefed the media on the Annual Conference and took question from the Phoenix Satellite Television regarding the impact of the policies of the incoming US administration on the world economy and Asia-Pacific region.

Zhang Jun stated that as an international organization, the BFA’s position and proposition are consistent and clear, which are upholding multilateralism, fostering open world economy, promoting regional economic integration, and advocating for win-win cooperation and common development. These serve the interests of all countries.

Zhang Jun said that he believed journalists might feel that the world we live in is becoming increasingly complex, turbulent and dangerous. Unilateralism, protectionism, and de-globalization are bringing grave challenges. Meanwhile, the direction and trend of economic globalization will not change. The analysis of the BFA, which is also in line with the findings of several international organizations, such as the World Bank Group (WBG), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), illustrates that economic globalization and international trade have always been the key driving force behind the development of countries, reducing development imbalance, improving universal well-being of people, enhancing resilience of the economic system, and helped the international community achieve common development over the past two decades.

Zhang Jun pointed out that this trend remains. Despite global challenges, we must stay open and make globalization more universal and inclusive, instead of reverting to closure or building "a small yard with high fences". We should make the world economy more closely integrated and seek win-win cooperation, instead of making it more fragmented and separated. In this process, all parties, especially major economies such as the United States, the world's largest economy, should adopt strategic and long-term thinking while adhere to multilateralism, seek open development, and win-win cooperation. This is the way out.

Zhang Jun also emphasized that the BFA has always been a significant platform for dialogue and cooperation among Asia-Pacific countries, including the United States of America. Over the years, former US policy makers, entrepreneurs, experts and scholars have engaged actively in the BFA events. The BFA welcomes American guests to its Annual Conference and other activities, to exchange views, forge concrete cooperation and seek common development.
