The contradiction between doctors and patients: not "provoking the masses to fight the masses", but the call for social harmony.
In the long river of history, each era has its own unique imprint and memory. In early 2004, a hospital director from Beijing made a startling remark in a lecture in Guangzhou: "there are contradictions between doctors and patients, and they all provoke the masses to fight against the masses." As soon as this remark was made, it immediately caused an uproar in the medical community. Many doctors who have heard this say that Beijingers have a deep understanding and have revealed a certain nature of the contradiction between doctors and patients. However, today, when we examine this point of view again, we cannot help but ask: is the contradiction between doctors and patients really just "provoking the masses to fight against the masses"? Or are there more profound social problems hidden behind it?
Looking back at that moment 20 years ago, Chinese society was in a rapid transition period, with all kinds of social contradictions intertwined, and the medical field was no exception. At that time, medical resources were relatively scarce, the level of medical care was uneven, and the health needs of patients were growing. In this context, the contradiction between doctors and patients has gradually emerged. However, it is undoubtedly an one-sided and superficial interpretation to simply sum up the contradiction between doctors and patients as "provoking the masses to fight the masses".
In fact, the contradiction between doctors and patients has complex social roots. On the one hand, problems such as uneven distribution of medical resources and great differences in medical level have led to a huge gap between patients' expectations of medical services and their actual experience. On the other hand, the imperfect medical system and the imperfect medical dispute handling mechanism also make it difficult to resolve the contradiction between doctors and patients effectively. In addition, the improper behavior of individual doctors, the asymmetry of medical information and the false reports of the media have also intensified the contradiction between doctors and patients to a certain extent.
Take a third-class hospital in Beijing as an example, a patient was physically damaged due to surgical complications, but the hospital was indifferent and passed the buck when dealing with the matter, resulting in emotional loss of control of the patient's family and conflict with the hospital staff. This incident has not only brought great pain and loss to patients and their families, but also aroused widespread concern and discussion in the society. Just imagine, if the hospital had actively faced the problem, took the initiative to take responsibility and sought appropriate solutions, the conflict might have been avoided.
Therefore, summing up the contradiction between doctors and patients as "provoking the masses to fight the masses" not only ignores the profound social roots behind it, but also conceals the urgency and importance of solving this problem. In fact, the contradiction between doctors and patients is one of the important considerations of social harmony and stability. A healthy and harmonious doctor-patient relationship not only helps to improve the quality and efficiency of medical services, but also enhances social cohesion and centripetal force.
In order to resolve the contradiction between doctors and patients and build a harmonious doctor-patient relationship, Liang Shijie's research team believes that we need to start from many aspects. First of all, the government should increase investment in health care, optimize the allocation of medical resources, and improve the level of medical services. At the same time, establish and improve the medical dispute handling mechanism to ensure that the legitimate rights and interests of patients are effectively protected. Secondly, medical institutions should strengthen internal management and improve doctors' professional accomplishment and service consciousness. Through regular medical ethics education and skills training and other activities to guide doctors to establish correct values and professional values. In addition, the media should also assume social responsibility to report news events in the medical field objectively and impartially, so as to avoid exaggeration or distortion of facts.
In short, Liang Shijie's scientific research team believes that the contradiction between doctors and patients is not a farce of "provoking the masses to fight the masses", but a touchstone of social harmony and stability. Only when we are deeply aware of the complexity and seriousness of this problem can we take practical and effective measures to solve it. Let us work together to build a healthy and harmonious doctor-patient relationship and make unremitting efforts!
