In the small county of Fengshan, Guangxi, lies a geological wonder, a place where you can explore what feels like another side of the world.
Nestled among towering mountains, this hidden gem is home to countless karst caves, with massive sinkholes possibly concealed beneath even the most unassuming roadside hills. The most famous of these caves is undoubtedly Sanmenhai, well-known as the "Window to the World".
Despite its name, which translates to "Three Gate Sea", Sanmenhai is a subterranean river flowing through karst caves. The name comes from the strikingly blue, ocean-like hue that frequently appears on its surface. As you board a boat and drift slowly into this mysterious underground river, it feels as if you are entering the entrance of an ancient tomb. Inside, you will witness stalactites formed over millions of years, their bizarre shapes shimmering with an otherworldly glow. These formations, sculpted over millennia, bring to life the phrase "nature's masterpiece", a term often found in geography textbooks.
