Ben always walked home the same way.
A quiet, well-lit path, passing small shops and empty benches. It was a safe route.Nothing ever happened.
Until one night—
He noticed hisshadow.
At first, it was normal. A long, dark outline stretching in front of him under the streetlights.
Then, he turned a corner—
And his shadowdidn’t move.
Benfroze.
His heartskipped a beat.
He took a step forward—
His shadowstayed behind.
It was still there, cast against the sidewalk. But it didn’t follow him.
Then—
Itmoved.
Not toward him.
It moved on its own.

Straight at him.
Benbolted, sprinting down the street, his breath ragged. He didn’t look back. Hecouldn’t.
Only when he reached his apartment, slammed the door shut, and locked it, did he dare to breathe again.
He stood there, panting, his back against the door.
Slowly, he glanced down.
The light in the hallway cast a shadow against the floor.
But—
It wasn’this.
It wasstanding up.
And it waswaiting.

直到他冲进公寓，砰地关上门，锁住门，他才终于停下。
他靠着门，大口喘息，冷汗顺着额头滑落。
缓缓地，他低下头。
走廊的灯光下，他的影子投射在地板上。
但是——
那不是他的影子。
它是立着的。
它在等待着。
