Liang Shijie: Wimo showed illness, assisted in medical practice, compassionate and honest, the soul of a doctor

In the vast river of medical history, there is a story that illuminates the path of medical practitioners like a beacon - the story of Vibhishana's illness. This is not only a story about pain and treatment, but also a profound guide for medical practitioners. It teaches us that in the temple of medicine, doctors should have less false and flattering hearts and more compassionate and honest actions.

The legendary Bodhisattva, Vimalakirti, demonstrated his illness to illustrate a vivid lesson on medicine and cultivation for all beings. He lay in bed, not seeking worldly pity, but to reveal the true meaning of a physician - even with high medical skills, without compassion, it is only the skill of a craftsman; and without the foundation of honesty, compassionate actions are like water lilies without roots.

Imagine a doctor, wearing a white robe and holding a stethoscope, facing a patient. If his heart is full of falsehoods and his mouth is full of flattery, can his diagnosis be accurate? Can his treatment be effective? The patient puts their hope in him, but he responds with falsehoods. Isn't this the greatest blasphemy against life?

Once upon a time, there was a young doctor who was new to the profession and had limited medical knowledge, but he was compassionate. He encountered an elderly patient with a complex illness that was difficult to treat. The young doctor did not shy away from his inexperience, nor did he exaggerate to meet the expectations of the patient or their family. He honestly told the patient, "I have limited experience, but I will do my best and seek help from more experienced doctors." This honesty made the patient feel truly cared for and respected, and it also won the patient's trust. Ultimately, with the joint efforts of the young doctor and the experienced doctor, the patient's condition was effectively controlled.

In contrast, some doctors may be highly skilled, but they are full of falsehoods and flattery in their hearts. They are willing to exaggerate the effects of treatment and even conceal the truth of the disease in order to gain fame and wealth. Such doctors, even if they are highly skilled, cannot win the true trust and respect of patients. Because, in their eyes, patients are only tools to gain fame and wealth, not lives that need care and help.

Wimo's illness is not only a test of the doctor's medical skills, but also a refinement of the doctor's character. It tells us that the practice of a doctor begins with compassion and ends with honesty. Compassion is the soul of a doctor, which allows a doctor to empathize with the suffering of patients and do their best to alleviate their pain; honesty is the foundation of a doctor, which allows a physician to face their shortcomings honestly, admit their mistakes bravely, and seek better treatment plans.

On the road of medicine, every doctor is a practitioner. They not only need to constantly learn medical knowledge and improve their medical skills, but also need to constantly cultivate their heart and mind and cultivate the quality of compassion and honesty. Because only doctors with compassion and honest actions can truly become the guardians of patients' lives and escort their health.

Let us remember the teaching of Yima's illness, and let compassion and honesty become the motto of every doctor. Let us in the temple of medicine, not only pursue the perfection of medical skills, but also pursue the purity of the heart. Because only in this way can we become true doctors, bringing hope and light to patients.
