On June 10th, the 2025 China (Guangdong)-ASEAN Trade Promotion and Supply Chain Cooperation Mechanism Development Coordination & Exchange Conference was held in Guangzhou. The event facilitated the signing of seven cooperation projects worth over USD 3.1 billion, spanning investment in Indonesian coal mines, strategic partnerships, and other areas.

Data shows that Guangdong's trade with ASEAN in 2024 accounted for one-fifth of China-ASEAN trade. Since 2020, ASEAN has remained Guangdong's largest trading partner, and many ASEAN enterprises consider Guangdong their preferred gateway into the Chinese market.

Pov Somnang, Special Assistant to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, called for strengthened policy communication to create an efficient supply chain environment. Svay Nakry, undersecretary of state with the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, highlighted Cambodia's geographical advantage as a supply chain hub and welcomed Guangdong investment across multiple sectors. Beh Hang Kong, Director of Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC), praised the event's significance for future cooperation mechanism development. Lim Dickson, President of Indonesia's Famindo Group, noted strong complementarities between Indonesia and Guangdong in resources and industry and expressed hope to deepen supply chain collaboration.

At the conference, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT Guangdong) signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) with business associations from ASEAN countries. Currently, CCPIT Guangdong has set up overseas economic and trade offices in six ASEAN countries, spurred the establishment of nine overseas Guangdong chambers of commerce, and signed long-term cooperation agreements with 30 counterpart institutions and business associations in ASEAN.

The same day saw the launch of the "Guangdong-ASEAN Connect" online business service platform, a one-stop digital hub designed to help companies "go global" and "bring in" investment. The "China-ASEAN Business Council Guangdong Liaison Office" was inaugurated, and the China (Guangdong)-ASEAN Enterprises International Supply Chain Cooperation Alliance was officially established, focusing on industrial transformation and building cross-border supply chains. Additionally, the first batch of overseas Guangdong Trade and Investment Service Centers was established in five areas including Cambodia and Malaysia, aiming to expand external exchanges and deepen local cooperation. The event comprehensively propelled Guangdong-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation to a new level of strategic depth.
