Between February 19 and 21, Shindo Kousei, chairman of the Japan-China Economic Association, led a delegation of over 30 Japanese enterprises to Changsha for an economic and trade exchange and matchmaking meeting. The delegation included senior executives and heads of China divisions from seven Fortune Global 500 companies including Nippon Steel, Mitsubishi Electric, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, as well as renowned enterprises like Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. and Japan Airlines.

A symposium on Hunan-Japan economic and trade cooperation was held in Changsha on February 20. Akihiro Nakamura, general manager of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, promoted Hunan to the Japanese entrepreneurs in attendance.

Sumitomo Rubber Industries entered Chinese market in 2002. As one of the key investment projects for both the province and Changsha City, Sumitomo Rubber (Hunan) Company was set up at the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone in September 2010, with a total investment of about 300 million USD. The company primarily produces Dunlop and Falken radial tires for passenger vehicles.

With a workforce of 1,100 employees, the company has produced 68.8 million tires and achieved total sales of 16.8 billion CNY since it began operations. Akihiro Nakamura remarked that establishing operations in Hunan has proven to be a wise decision, leading to win-win results for both the company and the region.

Hunan and Japan have maintained long-standing exchanges, frequent people-to-people interactions, and close economic and trade relationships. In 1982, Changsha City officially established friendship-city relations with Kagoshima City, marking Hunan's first friendship-city partnership with Japan. To date, Hunan has knotted 12 pairs of friendship-city relationships with Japanese counterparts. The Heiwado Shopping Center is a symbol of friendship between Hunan and Japan's Shiga Prefecture. Since its establishment in 1998, the Heiwado Shopping Center has operated well, achieving a total sales volume of 38 billion CNY as of 2024.

Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, and Xiangtan High-tech Industrial Development Zone had matchmaking meeting with potential partners at the symposium.
