On January 20th, Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), met with Mr. Jonathan Allen, Director General for Defence and Intelligence of the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and former UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, in Beijing.

Zhang Jun stated that the BFA is a high-end international platform for dialogue and exchange, jointly initiated by 29 Asia-Pacific countries. Focused on Asia with a global outlook, the Forum firmly supports Asian economic integration, promotes true multilateralism, encourages the construction of an open economy and closely follows the global agenda. It is committed to offer an Asian perspective and seek multilateral solutions to promote sustainable development and tackle global challenges. Zhang Jun added that, in the future, the Forum will further promote Asia-Europe cooperation and enhance unity and mutual trust among all parties. He expects more government officials, economists, and entrepreneurs from the UK to take part in the BFA’s Annual Conference and other events.

Jonathan Allen commended the Boao Forum for Asia for its efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation among Asia nations and those between Asia and other regions. He expressed his willingness to encourage the UK government to expand cooperation with the BFA.

They also exchanged views on international political and economic issues of common concern. Ms. Geraldine McCafferty, Deputy Head of Mission of the British Embassy in Beijing, joined the meeting.
